I must say, thanks to all the info posted here, I think I'm going to try the DIY conversion rather than a kit, if I like that I will bling it up further. Thanks everyone for the info.

I'm considering getting this [weblink] single speed conversion kit from Bike Nash Bar to convert my old rigid Diamond Back.

What are your thoughts on the product' date=' vendor and alternatives?

Hey Stockton!

What DB do you have?

Also have one - and am thinking that one day when I'm big Wink, and I get my dual-sus, I'll convert my old DB into a singlespeed as well... Mine's circa 1993/4 - yours?

It's an old Apex, I think from the components I figured it is a 1994. The 7 speed XT group set still works like a dream.

Just finished my first drop bar bike last week - makes those technical singletrack sections really sketchy , but in a good way LOL Like learning to ride again - love it!

No pics of mine until I am happy to show it off - still got a few tweaks and fixes I need to get sorted.

Heres my roadbike singlespeed, now with dropbars. I bought a DMR chain tension device from CRC and used an old 8 speed campy hub with lots of spacers and a single sprocket from the cassette:

Thanks Thug. Running a 39 - 17. Tried a 16 on the back but even with the tension device i couldn't get the chain the perfect length. I think a bmx style half-link chain would be a better option for a single speed with vertical dropouts.

running the same ratio. can spin out on the flats, but it feels better than the 42-15 i ran at crater cruise last year.

Given how popular this thread is getting I've changed the topic slightly.

I've also decided that I'm going to try and make my own push up tensioner. Any tips' date=' suggestions and ideas? I got the basic idea here  http://www.geocities.com/mtnwuff/SStens.html

Also anyone got a stuffed rear derailluer that they no longer want?

jockey wheel attached to slotted piece of a brace for a baby seat, which is attached to the frame. old derailleur spring from brace to coaster brake brace on the chainstay. will show you on sunday!
