so there's plenty of cycling shops out there

where do you guys shop? do shops in different areas differ in prices? or service for that matter Smile i certainly am not going to cycle tech in kyalami.....

would you compromise price for service?

for instance 2 shops have the bike i wanna get

the one is close to my house, real friendly people, heard service is good but a bit more pricy than usual + the bike is R200 more

the other is close to work, quite a big shop so they wont be greeting me by name for sure but the bike is cheaper.....

and do you bargain - is it a requirement to ask for a discount?

Can?t hurt to ask for a discount. Tell them you can get the bike cheaper elsewhere, and if they aren?t prepared to come down on price, ask them if they will throw in a few accessories, maybe to the value of the price difference. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

But R200 isn?t that much. If its going to be the start of a long and good relationship, its worth it. esp if you have warrantee issues or what ever int the future. They will probably go out of their way to help you out.

As for Cycle Tech, i really would try them. Judge them for yourself. See how good their service really is and how knowledgeable they are, and I promise you will go back!

Go for service rather then price, except if the difference is thousands. I was in Cajees at Princess on Sunday while waiting for my Fontana order and I was not asked if I could be assisted once in the 10 minutes I was there. Their prices were good but service sucks.

Yeah I did, in fact I was in the store just before the incident happened, and as usual their service was great. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I don?t agree with the way it turned out, but we don?t know the whole story, so I don?t think it?s fair to judge them based on that.

There are lots of good bike shops out there, and it?s your money, so spend it where you feel happiest!

Bored girl, service is very important. You want a shop that will set you up correctly and fix any little problems and you can trust with your bike. I'd pay R200 extra anyday for the service I get at my LBS.

i went on a browsing trip on sat

i think cajees problem might be the size of that shop

its bloody huge Smile

i missed slipstream as they closed by the time i got there but i'd love to go check it out

do they sell sidi shoes? i was told it's a shop somewhere in bryanston......

as to the size og jhb........

well thats why i was asking

i live sandton/rosebank area so am i going to be paying prices according to my the area? or is it normal pricing?

i wouldnt mind going to boksburg if its gonna save me a few hundred of something big but i am not gonna make the trip just to check it out.....

I dont' live in Jhb, so can't really comment on all the bike shops but what i will say is that Marco at Cycle Tech impressed me.  I damaged my Zipp 404 (which i did not buy from him) and made a call to his cell phone, Marco does not know me from a bar of soap but yet he spent 10 minutes just chatting to me like he i was his best friend, never mind the fact that he was out doing a training ride.

What happened at his shop??

Somebody at the shop (not sure who) attacked a client in the shop . Now I don't care if the client called his sister a cheap sofa , you never , ever do that in front of other clients in your/your bosses shop !

dirt-rider - plse lets not go down this road again.

as for shops with great service - morningside cycles,  cycletech (was there just yesterday & got an hours worth of advice / chatting without having spent a cent!) & you can get sidi's at slipstream.

don't waste your time going to the shops where the guys who work there dont race.
