Angry Subaru tries to get the MTB sector as one of its niche markets and there are a lot cyclists who drive them. I just wanted to say be careful of the marketin g hype because their service stinks. Even though my car is covered by motor plan to 100 000kms (which cost R 30k extra) they refused yesterday to replace the rear brake pads, and I had to pay in R 1100. Last service they over filled the transmission fluid, so it had to go back, this ssrvice it has to go back again for new motor mounts and suspension bushes. each service takes double the time, becasue there are no spares here. Then they don't honour the motor plan. And don't talk about resale value, becasue there is none - you can't give them away, and even Subaru won't offer a good trade-in on their own cars. They may win the world rally champs, they may even sponsor some MTB races, but they will screw you on service just the same. What a car - what k@k service.

Another great first post. I've got two friends with Sub's and they are very happy with the cars and service. Why did you buy the car if you knew it doesnt have a resale value of note? Sell the car and buy yourself a Chana. Mud Dee2008-10-24 01:39:24

Please contact me if you want to give it away for free. I'm willing to pay for your petrol, and return airfare from Jhb.  Big%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smileBig%20smile

Uhm, why would brake pads, which are a wear & tear item be covered by motorplan?

But I get what you say about workshop standards, although it's not a problem only with Subaru. VW saw my car 14 times in 3 months after I bought it. Ford sent us home with a car that had a busted waterpump, even though you could CLEARLY hear the pump make a noise when the car started. They thought it was the exhaust rattling.

End of the day you'll always have issues with workshops, since they only know how to change the oil and read the diagnostics screen.

Maybe you should separate the service and brand issues. If I based my opinion of the car I drive (Honda) on the service from the agent (Honda Sandton), I would probably hate the brand. However I moved to another agent (Honda Westrand) and love the car. Infact this is the car I've had the longest and done the most kilo's in. I would certainly consider another.

Moral of the story, try another agent because there is nothing wrong with the Suburu brand.

Brake pads aren't covered by motorplans buddy. You want them to slap on new tyres come service time too...?

Weird... my brake pads are covered by my motorplan.... In fact the only things not covered by my motorplan are tyres and gasoline....

Because lots of cyclists drive Subaru's, and therefore by ranting on a cycling forum we get to be taken seriously by the dealership because we're hurting their sales? Confused

Don't get me wrong - the cars are not bad at all. In fact they are a lot better than my last car, an Audi All Road. Believe me when i say i lost much more money on that and the service was worse (two gear boxes later and a replaced air suspension). I just thought Subaru would be better. Maybe your mates need to call for a trade-in value and that will wipe the smile off their face. Or maybe you should buy one to comment - its all about the experience

Service plan or motor plan? I know most places cover these items in their service plans. Motor plan is for stuff breaking. It does differ from one manufacturer to the next though.
