Ive just launched a whole range called phyto organix and 4 more whasp products' date=' it hit me R350 000, no extra cash lying around...

Online could work but then it works aout expensive as postage charges are a lot...

You mean as expensive as in a shop?

I just know that for myself, supplements are low down on the order of priority. When I go into a bike shop I am dazzled by gadgets n' stuff. If I could go online, even check out a catalogue and say mail you with what I want I would happily pay postage.

Or for a start how about mailing a sample pack. I would pay to have a simple supplement programme made up for me.

Eg. I am training for this race, my training days are X, I train for Z hours. You recommend A pre training meal, B training supplement and C recovery stuff. (Just as an example) Once you've got me hooked on products A,B and C you recommend pharmacy/shop in my area and I am now a regular user of your stuff.

For a start there is too much material out there. Where do I begin, how do I use it.

I would also market the fact you are south african brand. I like buying local so that would influence me.

Also, get a deal going with PPA and offer a discount to members to get access to their huge database of customers.

my 2c...

i'm a VERY picky eater/drinker when i'm on the bike - find it nearly impossible to use most products that USN, PVM, EnerVit etc etc etc offer when i'm riding.

So i ride with only water in my bottles because all the carb-filled drinks gets seriously awful when it starts to get warm and the rest of the stuff is just plainly far too sweet!

Energy bars are quite hard to swallow, but if i know i will HAVE to eat something on a 6 or so hour ride i stick to basics - jungle bars or Bar Ones.

The only product that i've found that works for me is GU Espresso Love. I LOVE it and since i've started using it a few years ago i've converted quite a few other people to using it - so i do agree - word of mouth works best. I've let the people taste it and most of them love it and now uses it themselves.

What i like about it:

GU's size is managable - the WHASP sachets are a bit lumpy and on the two occassions i've used it in a race i found it difficult to down an entire sachet while in quite a fast paced bunch. So i'd seriously vouch for it if you can offer smaller portions

Taste...i'm not really one for fruity flavours and unfortunately i'm not tooooo crazy about custard either. The coffee flavour is the one that really stands out and prior to the Espresso love i also didn't like any of the other gels - so maybe try something in that line when you're thinking of a new flavour?

WHASP's more runny texture isn't bad though and i think it worked quite well...that's plus points - the only thing that made me not buy it again was the flavours - but that's really only personal preferance.

Your packaging IMO is by FAR the most appealing!!! I love it...so really nothing wrong there!

ooooh...and the cycling kit is GORGEOUS!! Where can i buy it????:-D

so let me know when you've got a coffee-ish flavour out - then i'd DEFINITELY buy WHASP more often!

We are the biggest growing gel and i work on distribution all day everyday.

We currently about 25% of gel sales in SA from what we can work out based on numbers but i want o get bigger...better...

The shops say that when people ask for it then they will stock it...age old problem

Another brand I know hired people or got family friends whoever - to go into shops in their areas and just ask for it, two or three times a week. you dont even have to buy it if they have, but if they dont, they just get stock!!

big brand alchohol companies do this at bottle stores to get them to up stock and display!!

Iam putting a deal together now for 94.7 and will be using the idea of getting empty sachets back and then we send you a free box, prob 50 empty ones and you get a free box, so kinda like buy 5 and get 1 free...that makes it even cheaper...

Running around packing for world champs in USA, i leave tomorrow, but will have this done at end of day

With the current exchange rate exporting must really be worth it?

And by the way, the Green Mamba (100mg caffiene) is a monster. Drink it, and you will notice what a gel is supposed to do.

I'll second that. that Green mamba is like taking a cocktail of testosterone and EPO all at once.

The market is flooded with gels, supplements and sports products. So my question is:<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

What differentiates Whasp from the rest and how do you convince the consumer that your product is superior?

Nobody really compares products in detail like kj's per serving, size of serving, Carbs per serving, volume of water required per Carb dosage, rand value per kj, benefits of hystericalamine, MCT?s, bee snot, L-supervitamine, frees or captures radicals or any other of the technical jargon around the product, except for pernickety farts like myself.

So it boils down to pretty much personal preference, taste, texture and colour of packaging and has nothing to do with content. I just loved Gu Expresso Love, and boy it was love and first bite, but that stuff is expensive so I dumped it. I have used USN Vooma but only recently realized the carb content was not comparable at all and the labeling on the package is deliberately misleading, so bin that. I have now looked at all the other products on the market and it appears that, bang for buck, Whasp is pretty good and I will definitely try it out. But, back to my original question, for the man on the street who is not as technically preoccupied as I am, how do you convince him you have a superior product?
