What do I do at work now?

I suppose it was inevitable but I still thought it would slip thru a little bit longer... ABSA has discovered The Hub - and they don't like it.  Much to my chagrin this morning, when I hopped online with my morning coffee to catch up with the world (you know - CNN, Lifehacker, TheHub, etc), I was met with an "Internet Security Event" due to the recent classification of www.thehubsa.co.za as a "sports related" website.  For god sake - they allow Facebook over lunchtime, why not some Hubbing throughout the day.  Well, so-long daytime hubbers it's been fun and I'll catch up with you after dark Wink

I can see this day looming large at the corporate I work at. I've already planned to get my own 3G modem at that point in time and just modify my routing tables accordingly.

That's what cell phones are for. My work allows 1 hour of private internet access per day. If I run out, I simply log on to the Hub with my cell phone.

Most cell phones have internet access. I downloaded a very nice program called Mini Opera and it makes surfing the net so much easier.

If it gets you to work, why the hell not allow it?

Tiny fringe benefit, that makes a big difference.

I see some short sightedness, lack of big picture ability...

I say we strike! You first, I will be right behind you!!

Actually, think I just need to stay out of trouble for a bit.

How is this for irony. The company is restructuring (ie - closing down the division), and they would like most people to take voluntary retrenchment, but they block access to P-Net!!! Clever.

As an ex Absa employee who worked in the IT, they know exactly what sites you visit. Obviously there were others surfing the net, thats how the picked it up.
