good advice, flog that fairy machine of yours and get a dual sus MTB.  Get something exotic, guys dig that.

 

Also, even though you work in JHB, consider housing in the PTA, hartebeespoort dam, area, less traffic, less crime, less aggressive prats, less taxi's and more mtb trails..

 

There are great places to ride, (on a mtb), and less great pieces of tar to ride on (although spidy, who is coming over to the dark side) may disagree.

 

Local races are cheap (R40-R80, thanks Telkom CC) and "classics" are expensive (R180-R200)  In local races TCS makes sure you race, in "classics" almost everyone is a "fun rider" wanting to improve their elusive "seedings" (which mean almost nothing anyway).

 

Cycle touring is often limited to saterday. or sunday rides at northernfarm, the spruit, Groenkloof and now the "bike park".

You will love the riding, on road or off-road Snork.  Weather is the best and as Spinnekop said, we have lovely pieces of roads here to cycle on.

 

One word of advice though.  I am not sure how the motorists in the UK are, but brace yourself for the motorists here in SA.  Weather you are on or off the bike.
