On the contrary Kid, I respect the dude for suffering for that amount of time to complete his race. I remember well that not too long ago, I had a similar time for the 94.7. In fact my time for the 2007 94.7 was 4hr 33.

I have been there and I know how much pain was involved.

Fact is he finished the race. Maybe he took a looooooooooong time, but he completed the course which was actually not an easy one.

Now making fun of your "Ambition" to do a 4 hr 94.7 on the other hand is very funny. You are slow because you're lazy.smiley17.gifsmiley2.gif

Slave, I'm planning to beat your 2007 time by 34min and you still want more ??

I have to ask this, on Sunday while you were doing the TDS did you stop for some cold drink ???
Posted

As a matter of fact, yes, I did.

The route was from the start, somewhere near Maponya Mall. Up to Soccer City (FNB soccer stadium next to Nasrec.) and then back into the ghetto, ride around a bit and then back along the same lap for a second time. I stopped for an energy drink on my second pass at Nasrec. (It was the only water point.)

Drank three tiny cups of powerade and then set off again.

Ah, bliksem, now Trubie is gonna be all over my case about stopping.

I also stopped at the end to chat to the good doc, and then set off on my way home.

Stopped on my way home too because I got a puncture. Does that count?

So yeah, I was really lazy huh?

Already told you, I got beaten by a one legged dog in 2007. Did very little training. So if you are happy with such a crap time, go for it. Small target, small reward. smiley36.gif

Inexcusable Slave, I am sorry, for that, 6 shots on the front teeth with a rusted crowbar from each ASGR team member

Apparently not all humans are competitive Andy. Take the Kid for example. Four hour 94.7 stroll is not a challenge.

Not sure who he thinks he is challenging here. One legged dogs?

It's only the great pretenders like yours truly that goes crazy and tries to chase and pass everything in sight. Depends on the race I guess.

I started out with the objective of riding with my bunch on Sunday and sticking with them "no matter what". Only thing is it was a)small and B) slow. So I went after time. Not as in I want a 2hr 30. I had no idea' date=' just the best race pace I could get out of it.

Cut....Cut.....Cut......

Maybe that's what cycling is all about. Getting fit and having fun. Meeting people and being social. Humans are after all social animals. Thats why we have so much fun on the Hub. (Yeah, I know, not all the time, but mostly.)

Well, each to their own I guess.! Do what you enjoy.

I remember a few years back I did a ride down in the vaal, cant remember which one it was but it went over that wall they call "Ertjiesberg", anyway I was plodding along in a small bunch of maybe 4 or 5 and this guy rides up to us and asks if he can ride along, "of course" we say, happy to get another guy in the bunch. Anyway it very soon becomes apparant he is a lot stronger than any of us, but he plods along with us anyway chatting and just generally enjoying the day.

We plod over the mountain down to the finish and we all say Thanks, great ride, you know the story and off we go.

Later I am standing around enjoying a beer and the announcer says he is proud to tell us we had the great "Iron Man" champion Rynard Tissink ride here today, and he go's up on stage.!

Guess who rode the whole race with us and never said a word, never tried to ride away, never tried to break the bunch, never tried to prove anything. !!

I mean we didnt even know who he was.!

One of the last real gentlemen of the sport.

It's nice to meet people like that.

On the other hand, I'm just one of the great pretenders / wannabe type rider. I try to challenge myself more than anything else. That is one of the things I enjoyed about running when I still did that.

Every Sunday you were out there racing and trying to beat your previous Personal Best.

Maybe once I have accompished my mission to do 94.7 in the 3 hrs, I will go and try out the offraod stuff (MTB) and then do the 94,7 MTB challenge next year.

Hey Nance, you been wanting to come out this side and do a ride and you been wanting me to try the MTB dis-ting.

You and WW interested in an off road ride this weekend? Maybe Trubie will try out his MTB as well.

Just don't hurt me too much.

Also did the TDS on Sunday. You did not see me Slave because I changed my mind and did the 40Km funride. It was not fun at all. Why? I did no road training in Winter. I thought Soweto was flat. Lucky I did not do a second lap. My watch say I did the 40K in 1hr30min. Have to start training this weekend for the 94.7. My target is a 3hr45.

They need to change the start/finish. We left a whole 1.5hrs after the official 40km planned start. The marshalls where running around and giving individual feedback, while a lot of people did not even know where the starting blocks where. Also hit a pothole. Other then that, the race was ok.

Hekpoort... Nancy when are you organising a ride up there again?

I'm sure Trubie and Andyr cannot wait to experience it? smiley2.gifsmiley19.gif

Trubie has bought himself an MTB, an Andyr participated in the Magalies ride the past weekend?

Kid and I have now (I think) finalised our weekend ride. His kid seems to be making noises about cold fronts. Buncha soft pansies.

So it may be alittle cold. I hasn't hurt me too badly yet (except for the WWRR).

Guys, this is cycling. Conditions are not always ideal and we have to suck it up. This is part of a committment to ourt training regimen that allows us to set and achieve goals.

If you don't train, you dont get a good 94.7 challenge time and then you set weak goals like 4 hours.

So, are we riding or not. I have commitments from my neighbour and from teeny. I am in regardless.

Kid, you will only go indigo in colour if the temp is below zero. Sides, we are already leaving slightly later so it will be a bit wamer.

Nail your colours to the mast. You in or you chicken?

Go big, or go home.smiley2.gif

Indigo if you are not willing to cycle on Sunday, at least consider a run smiley2.gifMy plan for Sunday = 16 - 18km, long, steady (6:30+ /km)

You have two choices, the one cycle, the other (not cycling) = run smiley36.gif
