hey guys.

well done to all for their 94.7 times!!

i started in RR group, and had a nice bunch of 6 guys that were working together, and was on track for a sub 3hr.

then one of the guys had a chain prob so i stopped with him quick, and we helped each other back to our bunch, then i got my first puncture smiley7.gif, and the guy i helped didnt even stop, so i was left to change and try catch them. so rode solo for about 10 km's trying to catch somehow, and got my second puncture!! WTF!!! and this is through my new gatorskins and tyre liners!!! on second puncture saw that the tyre liners were actually slicing the tyre! so much for that then...

so did the rest of the last 30km solo, in that horrible wind in krugersdorp, and the 32 degress heat!!

so battled along, and ended with a 3:47:03 time, actual ride time was 3:15:03 an the cat eye.

so i'm not to upset with the time, just the flippin punctures and the chop who didnt stop to help...

anyway, just used it in the end as a traing ride for half iron man in jan.

anyone keen to do a 3hr ride on sat?

Hey Doc. Nice to see you back again. Well done on your result.

I swore by tyre liners about a year ago after doing some 2000 km without a puncture. Then I had the same problem and eventually chucked them. Got to a point where the liners were causing more punctures than they were saving.

Oh, and I found the Gators to be a very unbalanced tyre that doesn't roll. Change to Vittorias and they are better tyres.

Punctured twice during race for victory on Gators and nothing since I changed tyres.

Learn form that. In racing, it is each person for him /herself. Even out of the lower bunches. Your kindness will seldom be repaid so in future, leave them be to sort out their own mechanical and puncture issues.

The circumstances on the day dictate the outcome. Yes, from my side I was unhappy with my time because I know I am more capable of the time that I did. But, the race (in D) took on its own circumstance. I knew 10km in that I was not going to do a 2 30, simply beause I could see how the guys were riding. A group of strong triathletes were keeping a nice rolling pace...and would not allow anyone to get away. We were also all waiting for the big showdown on Ponte...and that dictated the circumstances for us (am I right Trubie?) So, in light of all that, I am happy with my time in light of the circumstances.

It was very clear that the guys were all waiting and gearing up (ok no pun intended there - they were gearing down) for the Ponte showdown. Those tri athletes did a good job, but made me nervous at stages. After the first two climbs we were joined by lotsa riders from other bunches that started earlier, and things got a bit messy at the back where I was trying to hang on.

Knew at halfway I wasnt going to reach my target of 2:32. Toughies! I say.

You guys are moaning so much.

Next time start from V V at 8:53 and see how many people you have to pass.

Slave, you better stop moaning about your age & Gators.

I can bet you that plenty people your age done a sub 3 so take it on the chin get on your bike & cycle!!!

Well I had a good race, was my 1st 94.7 so didn't really know what to expect, the first half was easily managealble but after that it got a little tougher. Those hills on the N14 didn't want to finish but once you've done SBR you can just about do any hill/s.

Finished with an official 3:17:08; 7th in my group, so now I start training for a sub 3 in 2010.

A special mention needs to go to MiniMe who finished with an official time of 3:18:20; 5th in his group.

Some young blood coming through to represent our team.

Just had a look at the results again. Last person to finish in our group did it in 8 hrs 4 minutes. Chap has a few respectabe 94.7 finish times so he must have had some big problems yesterday.

Ox, respect dude. To spend 6 to 8 hours on a bike is something I have no desire to aspire to. Can manage up to about four and a half. Anything over that and it starts to hurt too much.

Kid, never had tha gators on yesterday so I could not blame them at all.

I do not belive I have a sub 3 hr 94.7 in my legs regardless of what the rest of my age group are capable of.  In my age category, 214 people beat be and I beat 975.

I managed to finish in the top 20% of the field overall. Also managed the top 25% of the men.

So, I may be reasonably good but I am not good enough for the sub three I was aiming for.

I am not whinging about it. I am happy that I did what I did but very disappointed that I did not manage to achieve a stated objective. That was to finish in 3 hrs.

I missed that one so realistically, I am not as good as I want to be. I did also beat a hell of a lot of men far younger than me. Shoudl I rejoice over that or be realistic and state my case. I did not achieve my objective. That is the important thing to me. I missed my target time. Simple. I have no control over anyone else but myself.

Trubie mate, no -one is giving up. I had an objective and missed part of it. Part was to finish in my goal time and the objctive for next year is to do the 94.7 for fun. Maybe do the double.

Slave' date=' I bet you that you can do a sub 3!!!!

Here's how :

1) change your [s']mind set [/s]body age

2) tweak your training

3) tweak your diet

4) get Gators Colnago bike frame.

Hey ASGR dudes... as you all know by now I had a terrible race... just under an hour more than last year smiley6.gif

To say I'm disappointed with my result would be an understatement.

However, life goes on and I'll be back on my bike in no time preparing for Sani2C.

Thanks for the encouragement and support leading up to the event.. sorry to hear that I wasn't the only one that didn't have a whole lot of fun..

Denise, I think the wind played a big role in mnay results. Most of the poet 94.7 threads I've seen all hint at the times being disappointing for whoever took part.

I seem to recall that the wind only came up a bit after the elites had been out on the road for a while, so maybe it didn't have the same effect on them. (I may be wrong on this point).

I think most of us are a bit disappointed. I know I certainly am although my result overall was pretty good.

Next year I will probably try and do it for a charity. I was quite impressed by the CHOC riders and saw Rad on M1 south at Braamies.

I could look fair to reasonable in a cow suit.smiley2.gif

Bring on 94.7 2010!!!!

Going for sub 3 in 2010 but first I'm going to spend many many hours with GreyOwl, Andy & Trubie so I can achieve this.

I must again say I had one hellofarace, I aimed for 3 hours and finally ended on 3:00:14, yes I missed my target by 14 seconds and that is tough when I look at Trubies stats and to realise I am not one of those okes.

Anyway I have much more to give and only missed 3 becuase of the fact that I thought the race was done and in fact the time only stopped after the second timing mat.

How odd?

I am on my way to train at Midvaal Racecourse and to take it low and slow in active recovery today.

What I learned yesterday was that PVM works for me and that the wind in training only makes you stronger and that the Hills are the way and not in the way.

Now my training starts to focus on a sub 8 hour Attakwas on 13th Jan 2010 :-)

Yeah Baby.

Slave you awesome dude, trubie whatch it my man I am on your 6 :-) and well done to all the others.

In IM we say we do it because we can and that is all that matters
