Very technical MTB race

KABOUS

Recommended Posts

I did the two day MTB race this past weekend from George, over the Montagu pass , Through a couple of farms and to Lovain guest farm. The route was extremely hard and technical and it just about made me loose my appetite for the Epic. Took me 6 hours to complete the 80 km first dayl route.

Question: Is the Epic as technical and dangerous as this race was.

I have to admit this was a big shock to my system !

Would like to hear your input.

Thanks.

Definitely. Evil%20Smile How about I take that Epic Entry off your hands and save you the trouble.Clown

Seriously though, dont know where yuo are but take the opportunity to visit one of your local bike parks and work on those skills. Work this into your training programme. Never underistimate the workout you'll get from a technical training session.

Well the last Epic was boring, long open roads and tar with lots of bunch riding, i.e. not a Mountain Bike race, have heard that the next one will be more technical, and it's about bloody time.

I would say this was as tough as some of the harder stages of this year's Epic. If you survived day one, and still had reasonable legs for day 2, then I think you don't have to worry. I have also heard that next year's Epic is going to be way more technical than previous years, so I think The Rock Pedal Classic is a good test to see where you are.

I enjoyed this event - well done Hannes.

Is this the Great Outeniqwa mtb race?  I heard that they changed it.  The last time i did it, it was 45km the first day and 45km the second day.  Awesome ride, but a bit short.

The route was extremely technical and I had to push( and so did many other guys ) up a lot of the times, After having climbed up Montagu pass( a monster).

In retrospect it probably was a good preparation,, but did me no good in terms of self confidence !

Kabous, I did the Cedarberg Challenge, and got such a wake up call, that I also had second thoughts on doing the Epic.... but then thought,,, stuff it, I finished these three days, am just going to train wiser and ask for help from whoever is available, and knows about the Epic.... have changed my whole mindset, and although I am nervous about the Epic, I am far more confident, and getting stronger every day.

Yes, I am going to walk, and push, cry and swear, but am going to do my damdest to get to the finish line, even though I will be facing extreme challenges every one of those eight days. (Remember how much training you are putting in.... don't throw it away now)

Hang in there, be positive and maybe we will just be at the back together!!!!

Train safe.

Where do you find technical riding in Grabouw?  Am i missing singletrack or do you refer to the steep, loose climbs?

Grabouw is great for training, but show me the singletrack please
