LX vs SLX

I'm looking to replace my groupset (some of it in any case) and was looking at the LX and SLX. I have two questions -

 

1- Am I correct in that the SLX replace the LX?

 

2- If answer to 1 is yes then is it still work getting a LX groupset if the price is good?

 

I know this is bottom of the range but for now it is about as much as I can spend.

IMHO LX is the best of the shimano GS .

SLX is the new LX but will still be available but it moving to a touring/hybrid group.

There is nothing wrong with SLX, it replaces LX as i understand in the long term, at the moment its above LX and below XT.  I have SLX on the Giant, and its been hassle free and solid since new.

There is nothing wrong with SLX & LX GS and Maintenance will not push the budget through the roof .

I actually looked at the SRAM stuff and it seem solid but I don't really know it and since I'm a person of habit I'll stick to shimano. But......

 

if I had the funds for the X0 I would seriously consider it.

 

On the topic of hijacking - anybody use the twist grip?

Chuck, don't listen to these people talking about SHRAM or ES-ram. They can't even make up their mind how to pronounce the name. The company is gonna go under. They even had to get LA on board just so that they can pretend to be great.

 

BTW, you do get Sram gripshifts that works with Shimano.

Read a detailed article in the "What Mountain Bike" of last month about the new SLX groupset. Got a great review. Very close to the XT groupset for much less moola.

I switched to gripshifts on my new bike in March. XTR FD and X0 rear with X0 gripshifts. Personally I had my doubts but now I am coverted. I will stick with gripshifts from now on. The one great advantage is the infinate adjustments you get on the fd, no more chain rub.
