Spinning Out

I've got a 9 Speed Campag Veloce cassette and Crank on my Bianchi.

Cassette is 13-23, big blade is 52T.

 

Problem is I keep spinning out downhill.

Can't get past 85 down suikerbossie.

 

Will a 54 make much difference?

 

Is there a compatible 54?

rather get an 11-23 casette at the back

legspeed dude, and remember they will have to send out a search party for your body bits if you come off at that speed, and your family can toast to all the parts that they dont find.

regardless a 52-13 has got to suck

 

i'm riding 53-12 and i spin out sometimes... so 52-13 cant be cool. isnt that like u/16 gearring?

if track racers can get up to 70km/h on a 48 14 ratio then i am sure you will be able to go faster with a bit more work on your legspeed

11-23 and you should be sorted......all else fails, go for 53....not 54

Have just changed my blade to a 53 for this exact reason. Tried to change my 121 for an 11 at the back on JB's advice but couldn't get the derailleur to track so I changed it back. The 53 has made a difference though, albeit not quite as much as I had hoped

Why do I want to go more than 85?

Because when you climb like a sumo wrestler, you want every advantage elsewhere!

 

As for crashing - isn't it cool at 80 plus to look down at your front wheel and think "imagine the mess if this explodes now". Gives me a little buzz every time.

 

I do think leg speed is an issue as well though.

I tend to push bigger gears slower than any of my mates. 

 

I tried the whole Armstrong high cadence when it was all the rage.

Couldn't make it work.
