are rotors make specific?

There are magura brakes on the bike, but I want to go to Juicy 3. Will I need to worry about replacing the rotors as well?

Lets call them discs, shall we? Rotors hail from the land of color, humor, African-Americans, stupid cars and an American-only element called aluminum.

Big-Ben's advice is spot-on. But you're not mixing and matching rocket parts. Experiment. If it fits and works, don't go out and buy new ones.

Remember, if it aint broke, fix it.

when you say size ?

As in do the juicy 3's only fit on 160mm rotors?

No, the adapters that fixes the calipers to the frame/fork determines the size of disc that can be mounted. Stock is normally 160mm.

Avid makes a rotor called the 'G2 Clean Sweep' for the Juicys. It has been specifically designed to reduce noise and vibration. From my experience, I was running Shimano disc brakes and switched over to Juicy Carbons, leaving the Shimano rotors on the bike. The noise and vibration was bad. I switched over to the G2's and they have more stopping power as well as less noise (although the Juicys are the noisiest brakes I've run into). Not to say that other rotors wont work properly too, but Avid seems to have spent a fair bit of time designing theirs, and I did notice a diffs.

I have a spare G2 Clean Sweep 160mm diameter lurking in the bike room if you'd like it. PM me.

Lastly, they are called rotors. Look on any website, from Hope to Avid to Magura to Shimano. They ALL call them rotors. You can safely call them rotors.

Slowbee, these is apparently a variation in the thickness of rotors between certain brake manufacturers. This can affect the "feel" of the lever and the point of contact. I do believe that this is something that will never be picked up by the likes of you nor I. I run Shimano brakes and have happily run Avid and Shimano rotors and am currently running Hopes with an Alligator centre lock adaptor.

thanks guys

Busthesickness, will be sending you a pm this evening.

Am going to chat to Kiwi about his brakes and shifters cause at the price he is selling the stuff its better than chain reaction.

I am wanting the juicy 3's for the wife's bike. She is not a hectic rider. Likes the dirt roads, but not to much single track.

Between myself and Lil'ben I guess we got quite a combination going ......

Juicy 7's with original Avid wavy's (Gobbles like a Turkey!)

Juicy 3's with an Avid (non-wavy) at the back and a Hope on the front pretty quiet

Deore's with Alligator windcutter's noisy but not loud (look like a ninja weapon!)

XTR with an Avid (non-wavy) and a wind cutter

Deore LX's with a Shimano original and a new Avid (round with like small slots cut ....)

the levers are loose, and I cant find a way to tighten them up

also I am not sure if they need bleeding, or new pads, but you have to pull the lever right in before they take effect. also you cant get them to lock the wheels into a skid.

the bike is at least 6 or seven years old. It was the giant xtc1 NRS, that was for sale.

you should never do that. It's okay if you want to destroy your R400 tyres but you will also damage the trails. Even if nothing is growing there.

They just need to be bled. Sounds like there is nothing wrong with them. Take them to your bike shop and have them serviced and new fluid bled into them. While u'r at it, maybe some new pads, and metal sintered ones if you ride in a lot of mud, but why change them out for a whole new setup just because of that? oh, and the levers can be fixed too. anyways, its u'r money.
