my shoulders, elbows and wrists gets sore when on the bike especially when going downhill...

my handlebars are not lower than a fist width of my saddle.

is it still too low then?

thanks

I think there r no hard & fast rules to this --- set it as comfortable as what suits U --- like the height of your saddle maybe. e.g - my brake hoods are slightly higher & I'm comfortable with that !!!Thumbs%20Up

Listen, don't try to correct your setup yourself. Rather take your bike to any decent bike shop and they'll set you up professionally. I had huge shoulder pain until i established that in fact my bike frame was too small for me. Don't discount this possibility either.

Isn't it fairly normal for everything to be sore/uncomfortable when you start out?  Especially when you're tense (which all beginners are)

The more time you spend on your bike the less strain your body takes and over time everything just feels right.

Not very scientific I know, but spend more time riding and try to relax and I'm willing to bet you'll feel an improvement over time

I know a girl who had the same problem, ended up her frame being too big for her , she had too much reach, when she tried a smaller bike she could'nt stop smiling!

You can't judge a bike by small, medium, large etc. I'm 1cm taller than Helloise.  My road bike is an XS and my mtb is a medium.

Each manufacturer has different sizing. Go for a proper bike setup and they will be able to tell you whether it is the correct size or not.
