Although cyclist are probably the only people who obey one of the most important road rules i.e. stay as far left as possible/ / safe! (Keep left Pass right - and the JHB holiday makers in CT never seem to obey this on the freeways i.e. the slow lane becomes the fast lane!)

Is it not time that motorist learn to drive properly? i.e. when overtaking a cyclist indicating and doing it in the other lane and obeying the rule of never putting 2 wheels over a solid white line? Once again been in Europe way to often!

The road are not only for motor vehicles! But for all road users.

Is it not about time that motorist learn to drive properly and respect the law - and that law enforcement officers do law enforcement and not only speed control for monetary gain?

thank you' date=' very well said! Clap

cyclist to keep left , ride in single file on roads with no shoulder = common sense, something most of our local pros don't have.

Kevin I have seen those riders a few times as I live in the area and I agree that they are by far the most eratic and dangerous bunch of cyclists I have ever seen' date=' no question about it, especially all over the show on the R44 at rush hour. [/quote']

Yup, they have no respect. We need to bring their behaviour to the attention of whoever started the initiative. They are doing the image of cycling no good whatsoever.

As a result of them the Waterworks road has been closed to cyclists, the last I heard.Angry

WHAT??? How did they manage to cause that to happen? That sucks! The waterworks road has become the last section of a nice 35km MTB loop I ride since Dellrust was sold and became closed to riders. Time to find a new place to ride again.Cry

Kevin drop me a PM if you are keen to hook up for a MTB in the SSW area...I usually ride Helderberg if I am limited for time but would like to check out your 35km route if you dont mind and maybe explore some more possibilities in the area.

I'm going to be spending more time on the roadbike in the next few weeks so I will look out for them and have a chat. Thanks.

While we're on this topic' date=' does anybody know who is in charge of the development riders who are always on the road in the Somerset West area? They ride in red kit, I think that Pick n Pay is at least a partial sponsor.

I want to contact them because these riders are a hazard to themselves and to motorists. They ride in a large group, often up to 50 of them, and they haven't a clue as to how to ride in traffic. They are p!ssing motorists off and are endangering themselves.

This group has been brought up several times in the past, and it always gets heated and almost always gets racial.

Tread carefully...

I'm a roadie myself - more often than not I drive past these guys riding 2 abreast on a narrow stretch of road -- my wife has asked me why do they do that - they will get run over --- moron's I say.

Thanks for the heads up, has anything come up in these threads as to who is in charge of the group? I really want to talk to somebody about it. Got nothing to do with race, got to do with the fact that they ride like idiots and that they are giving all cyclists a bad name with their behaviour.

No Kevin, don't even go there! You can contact them with the best intentions but you will be branded a racist bastard. It's always about race in these circumstances...

Thanks for the advice sias but I will try anyway. Somebody needs to take action before one of these guys gets hit by a car (or before I get hit by somebody that they have p!ssed off).
