I need to replace the steerer tube of my fork. Does anybody of know of someone that can do this?

It's a RockShox Reba SL and to replace the crown is an option, but expensive.

Any advice?

AFAIK the crown and steerer are a factory pressed sub assembly and can only be replaced as a unit. It's not a piece you really want to take a chance with. I've had a fork break there and I can tell you it ain't fun.

That sounds like a great deal!

(it's what a lot of LBS's are offering too. How do you compete?!!)

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it wasn't a big enough hammer...

it can be done, go to an engineer and they will press fit a new one for you - just need to get a new steerer tho, not sure where you'll get one......don't expect a warranty afterwards :-)

If the agents don't want to do the job for you it is 'cause they don't have a press.

If you can find a trashed fork somewhere with a good steerer (unlikely, since it is as rare as a trashed car with a good front bumper), the pressing in of a new steerer is a piece of cake. I have a hydraulic press that can squeeze humility out of Julius Malema.

Its one of those things that when somebody else asks about it. I tell myself nooit. I just wouldn't risk it. Especially considering the bikes intended purpose. But whats the harm in asking?

The fork in question is a 2009 Marzocchi 66 RCV.

It has a straight 1-1/8 steerer tube.

I tried fitting it and its about 15mm too short.

Lets just say that the stems top bolt doesn't clamp anything.

Now I realise that when I actually bolt the steerers top cap into the star nut it will pull the fork up. But 15mm is a long way to go.

The real problem is actually the frame in question.

Azonic Recoil. Both headset cups sit outside the frame.

Doesn't look integrated at all. If it was. I wouldn't have this problem.

What are my options?

I'm currently running an old dual crown sherman.

But I love me some single crown sexiness.

I hope to achieve something similar to the bike below.

You should be able to get external cups that are recessed, otherwise pressing out the old steerer and replacing it with another is not very hard with the a 1-1/8 try find a steel replacement.

I saw Marzocchi steerer tubes for sale on Ebay while searching for decals / dust seals...If you know of a decent engineering firm tha can replace this for you, give it a go, but my gut tells me its a bad move. the crown separating from the steerer can not be fun at all, especially if you look the ride you want to use it on.

Nice looking beast though

Would a better option not be to extend the steerer by properly welding an extension to it.

By properly I mean with a correctly sized insert inside the steerer (10 to 15 cm long), weld area chamfered and insert puddle welded by a professional welder.
