That great day has arrived.  You know, the one where your kid comes to you and says : "Dad, I want a BMX for my birthday!"  Yes, the bug has bitten and he wants a BMX with stunt pegs.  Now the question is which one?!?!  Apparently my intimate knowledge of the differences between Campag and Shimano, carbon and titanium means squat here....

Anyone with BMX knowledge out there?  Which brands are cool?  What do I look for?

BTW, apparently Mongoose and GT are just SOOOO average....

So nice to know I won't be the only bike addict in the family nowBig%20smile

GT & Mongoose have just about been around for as long as BMX itself, very good brands & probably the cheapest, yet it's quality.

Other brands are S&M, Schwinn, Giant, Redline.

What age is?

Good quality comes from minimum R2000.

He's 12, so Mongoose and GT would be fine (he likes a Mongoose Villian, but I have no idea if it's OK or not).  I just don't want to have to upgrade in a year's time because it's got the wrong cranks/sprockets/geometry etc.  Just don't want to buy a supermarket special by accident!

Willie, if its a stunt/street/park bike he wants... the look at this forum/site ..

http://bmxdirect.net/

and speak to Brad@TheRiot on this site..

Be warned that these bikes can be heavy for a 12 yr old to throw around..

The brands mentioned by others here are all good. The GT/Mongoose/Redline brands are more racing Bmx brands although Mongoose do make many a street bike at the lower price points..

Do some research, it can get verrrrrrrry expensive!Big%20smile

It's arrived!  After lots of browsing and soul searching my boy decided the Mongoose Brawler was his favourite option.

It's still boxed up, but I sneaked a peak and it looks great.  Black matt frame with white pedals, cables and accents.  Nice!  His birthday is on Wednesday, but I can't wait!

Wish it was mine...
