what about the stupid idiot that don't know how to keep left when traffic from the front approaches. I cought up with two guys and I'm in the left track and they stay in the right. Riders from the front approaches and the two infront goes even more to the right. That forced the riders approaching to also go right and into my track.

this is the right forum and your point is totally correct.

it is this attitude of "biggest" and "fastest" has god-given rights that causes the carnage on the roads as well.

welcome to thehubsa.

I really don't understand why this is an issue. Both parties move off the trail to their respective left hand sides, the smile and greet one another and continue on their respective ways. No need to slow down, stop or be inconvenienced. No problem.

Agreed! Was just discussing two similar incidents that happened to someone I know on Table Mountain last night.

There seems to be this idea in SA that the downhill rider has the right of way.

On the one occassion I was lucky enough to ride overseas, I was pedalling up a short hill when a rider came over the rise ahead. I pulled aside to make room for him amd he shouted "No way buddy! It's your trail!"

The amount of times I've been confronted with people descending a single track trail that I'm ascending and been given verbal abuse for not moving completely out of their way astounds me.

It's gotten to the point where I no longer give way. It's 'my' trail and I'm claiming it.

The climber has right of way, always has, always will, he was probably a roadie and didn't know any better.

This rule does not apply in racing however, the leader has right of way whilst racing, and the roadies seem to stuff this up as well.

And why the f*ck must downhillers always yield.  If there is enough space, just smile and wave.  On the contrary, there is a perception in SA the uphill has right of way.  Piss right off...

I have often passed people when going downhill and they have their heads up their poepols and do not pay attention, and then it's the descending guys fault when they get a fright.

Learn how to ride and get out of the way.

I will however slow down for walkers and especially for dog walkers, and will usually give a cheery greeting and a big grin.

Uhm....

My name isn't Justin! Confused

another spider incident?

Nah, this time I'm innocent. If a spider jumped on me while riding you'd see me ejecting from the bike at whatever speed, slapping myself, and trying to land on top of the 8-legged monstrosity when I hit the ground.
