NN. How'd you get the fine? Must have been one of those radar guns.

My buddy and I were racing down Sandton Drive and didn't notice the traffic car following us the whole time. We overtook a car halfway down and kept on sprinting down the road, when we heard the dreaded sirens ShockedLOL

Must have happened 5 years ago when I still road like a maniac

Theres a certain section of forrest road commonly known as "the Hydro" by Knysna folks.. you reach it after about 30 km on the first day of the "old" epic route. this thing is so steep I let go my brakes for 4 counts ( from slow pace) and was doing 68km/h before throwing ancors for my life, no pedaling, going the other way I couldnt make it up to the top, without pushing thats how steep. steep.

It took me the rest of the downhill to gain controll and not go over the edge which would see one fall 100 m to your moer.

Glassfit van turned in front of me 3 years ago when I was going 60km/h.

It put an end to my dreams of racing for a top team. Years of strengthening work for my knee and back have thankfully allowed me race at a high level again.

Everytime I see a Glassfit advert I shake my head, buggers!  Sleepy

I think the chances of crashing at high speed is less... just relax your body and glide with the bike and let the arms and legs absorb the bad terrain... keep your body light to prevent snakebites and read the terrain well...

But... high speed in singletrack or technical terrain it's another story...

For me... on jeeptrack with loose ie rocks... the faster you go, the more stable everything is... up to a point.. of let's say 60km/h (loose jeeptrack) ...

I've hit bad sections in races before, when there's no time to slow down, where I just clench my teeth and aim the bike... you'll be surprised at what you and your bike will go over at speed...

On gravel I would go 100km/h if I could only get there....

Crashing at even 40km/h could be as bad as - did you hit the tree, or not?... Good bailing skills help a lot... I've jumped off a few times and ended without a scratch...  But I also once fell over at low speed and broke my little finger of all things...

Like Brighter lights said, It helps to know how to bail... I use to dirtjump and probably jumped for 10 years or so, by bailing the bike and focussing on your landing one often get up with a laugh and a dirty backside.

Ive abandoned ship many times the last year or 2 but never serious damage, this hasnt happened at high speeds for a while but Its a part of it.

Helloise, just dont panic.. whatever you do, If you were getting youself into a situation, just ride it out.. like BL said, most of the time one can go right through by leaning back and staying relaxed. which will get you an even bigger rush as the one you had going down that hill at 60km/h

Three of us manage 77km/h on Mtb?s gravel road. Other guys had speedos on their bikes, did not feel as fast, also stable to the point of not being much.  On one of the Sabie?s got 80+ (as per the official reading) - then I felt much more unstable.
