I am yet to find a wet lube that leaves it looking clean after a ride, however it is essential in wet conditions. As far as dry lube goes, white lighting or squirt

i just hate my road chain going black,"beautiful" or not!!

white lighting goes black very quickly , havent tried squirt yet???

You need to let the white lightning dry proper before you ride, stay clean. The black color with wet lube is not the prob, its the sand and grit that sticks to it that is.

I personally swear by Motorex products, swiss made, biodegradeable, used in the epic etc etc.

Ā

The dry lube isnt cheap but its a wax and oil formula that works well for me, its just the right consistency to stay on the chain but still penetrate the links where the lube is needed.

Ā

Whats the deal with Squirt? Looks like jouĀ 'got a bit excited' and took it out on your chain, not cool. Its just cloggs the whole thing, I hate it!

If it goes black, it is a sign that the oil is working. If it stays clean, it is a sign that you don't have a lubricant on there.

Ā

The black is an oxide of aluminium produced after teensy amounts of aluminium is shaven off your aluminium chainrings. When the oil turns black, it shows you that the lubrication is working by moving in and out of chain cavities and flowing back after being squeezed out under pressure. Wax doesn't flow back and thus doest transport the black stuff to the outside.

Ā

Wanting a clean chain oil is like not wanting oil in your car's sump because it turns black after use and soils your hands should you accidentally touch it.

Ā

Black IS beautiful. Even white tribologists will tell you so.

Chain lube does not affect shifting.

Get a lube that contains oil and put up with the black look. What's the big deal with black' date=' it's supposed to be beautiful?

It makes the transition of the Chain better...... Ive seen it time and again....maybe not directly affects shifting but makes it smoother......

Ā

Squirt in dry conditions.... MTB

Rohlhoff in wet or any oil based lube..... mtb again....

Ā

on the road wetlubes make the chain black and its not the oil that goes black its the gunk stuck to the oil and chain......
