Ja porky - his posts have gone *poof* !

some really interesting posts.

First time in a while that on page 28 of a thread there is still some good debate.

As an aside, do probike only sell raleigh equipment  ?

A quick google of probike takes you to the raleigh website.

Yah, agreed, hope the debate continues - not sure what pro-bikes product line up is besides Raleigh, Scott, Uvex helmets and I think a tyre  and accessory brand as well, Maxis and BBB respectively, I think - may be wrong though,.......... theres probably others as well, but I dont know of them.

As far as I know they are the guys that do Scott as well.

And they are pretty useless at that...... dont get me wrong. I love the Scott I ride..... broke a hanger on it, fitted my spare 2weeks before Sani2C, emediatly ordered the new one..... spoke to the guy in PE myself he said it would take 2 days to get it to the shop I work at. 2 weeks after Sani the Hanger arrives...... so a simple parcel takes 4weeks to be overnight posted......

Thank you' date=' Brandon,  for your detailed and forthright reply.

First off I would like to assure you that i have no axe to grind with you or any of your competitors. I am not at all involved in the cycling industry - my interest stems purely from the fact that i like to ride my bike.

That said, do you not think that it is very anti-competitve to be moving stock at below cost with the express intent of "wiping out" out a competitor? Do you not think that could be interpreted as a gross abuse of your company's dominance in the industry?

I don't think you will get an unbiased answer from Brandon. He is engaging that strategy therefore will defend it.

It's not anti competitive to for distributors to engage in a price war. As long as the impact on the end customer is positive. Competition law is there to protect the end customer.

Zoon can of course complain to the Competition  commission that probike is trying to put t out of business through this strategy but firstly it must be proved that;

  1. Probike is a dominant force in the market
  2. Probike is engaging in other malicious activities to undermine the Silverback brand.
An email enchange between two distriobutors flexing a bit of muscle is not anti competitive unless abuse of a dominant position can be established.

Retailers discussing the raising of retail prices and coordination of this effort is very much anti competitive behaviour because the end consumer is impacted directly.

Not defending Brandon at all, we're not cut from the same cloth.

Good post Lefty,

Pro Bike email to Silverback may not be classed as anti competitive in law... but I will say that it is classed by me as disgusting... Thats the sort of bully boy tactics that are enough to make me boycott/bypass Probike if I can help it..

And yes, I may not be able to buy anything in SA when its proved that all have sent crappy emails, etc that disgust me, ( sure someone will comment in this vein ) but at the moment I have only the minutes/email and now this email from Pro bike to go on in the cycling industry...

When oh when will people learn that nothing of a dubious/bullying/illegal nature will ever stay a secret. Cant anyone learn from the Mail and Gaurdian as regards the scandals that break with insider info every weekOuch

I am but a tiny consumer in this cycling market, but like others on the hub and elsewhere, when I see things/evidence like this, I vote with my pocket if I can help it.

this is getting so boring....

why not go and complain about more serious stuff such as rapes' date=' murders etc... FK!

If it bores you, don't read it. Some of us find the psyche of this industry very interesting. To some people it has a material affect on their livelyhood.

Your notion to first (or only) focus on what you term serious stuff is naive and very typical of the response in opposition to a lobby for change in legislation or change in behaviour or such.

Those who sit on the sidelines always have the same advice: "Why don't you do this or why don't you do that first?" They never realise that society isn't run from a prioritised list, where one starts at the top and tackle issues one by one. You engage all issues at once - within reason of course.

I'll go as far as saying the "Why don't you rather do this or that" response is actually a manifestation of apathy. I could ask you what you have done to stop rape and murder, but I won't. You'll blow bubbles.

If you don't understand the issues, step back and observe what's going on. It is for your own good even if it does bore you.

johan, as you know, i've had a keen interest in this topic, but over the last 30 pages, there have only been a handful of interesting points raised. for the most part, however, the posts have been, as mud dee says, repetitive and unconstructive.
