I baulked at the cost as well' date=' but entered anyway....I really enjoy the event.

Write them and complain, but as you say, they know there are plenty of people willing to pay the high fees.

You staying up there the whole week? That wasn't really a question, more like a statement.

I will be the first to admit that it is always great fun racing at Knysna, the long mtb is still my favourite one day race. I just can't afford it.

Ti....parking off with shebeen for the week(assuming the GF's leave is confirmed in writing as opposed to the current verbal). You guys...?

I've been to Knysna for the last 4 years and am going again this year!  I love everything about it, from the cold start where you get a cup of hot chocolate and a little snack, then the beautiful forests, and then best of all the beer tent at the finish where you get to sit around the fires.

What is great is that there is plenty for the people who don't cycle to do so you can bring along the non-cycling wives or husbands and they can still have lots of fun.

With the town being overrun by cyclists, it makes for a great atmosphere if you go to any of the pubs / restuarants.

Ag come now.. be kind to Knysna.. I was born there.. It had to eat all my sh*t and It was the only place I knew for 20 years. And hey, I know its expensive there...but The people from the "big cities" came with their money and made it into a place the locals can hardly afford to live in.

I wish I could Hoast you all and we have a vet braai the friday night but all our beds are taken by friends and family, If you want to do the tent thing on the lawn.. go for it, theres plenty space.Wink

Hope you enjoy it. CX 4 LIFE

As for the road ride, I do admit It really sucks compared to the mtb.

Hey..I also stayed in CX for a while. Still love the place! Will also be doing the race this year?it?s really worth the R185 people want to b*&ch about. Really. It?s well organized, in spite of the thousands of people streaming there for the festival. Great fun! <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

BOS1000...What?s that about a braai you say?Wink

Hey dirt*girl, I have also entered the MTB event and will be staying the entire week as my wife is doing the 21km marathon...

I am not so much bitching about the R185 as much as the assumption by organizers that cyclists should pay more and get less than our running mates.  With events as well, if not better, organized as the cycling events.

Yeah, yeah, I know you are probably thinking... Why don't I then take up running, but this is not the point here.

In fact if the entry fees were reasonable I would have also entered the road bike, after all I am there...

No worries Moonman, I see your point. But staying down here, I know during this event there?s about twice, maybe thrice as much runners than cyclists?.and running does have more sponsorship than cycling in general?that?s why I understand if they pay less. There are just more runners to cover the costs..I also think (speaking under correction) that the cost involved organizing the running event is far less. But hey ho, we are both riding?so I?ll see you there!  <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I think this is a total rip-off. I  presume the prizes are sponsored.

Its not a race with only 100 riders, there are many people taking part and they are making good money here. I think cyclists should take a stand or this will start to happen at more and more races. In my case we are 3 riders thus 3x R185  --  that's ridiculous.

Will not support them anymore.

Unfortunately I dont see you doing many races then. I know It is a lot of money. And I often also complain. But If everything else is getting more expensive and we just accept, Then Hey, bike races I guess...We have to accept???

I dont particularly think  this is a rip off. There are some that are but this race is on par with top races in the country and not just a backyard bash.

most smaller 55km- 60km races cost in the R135-150 regeon anyway.True? Did you know that Having the Luxury of being able to regester online costs up to 20% of the total amount? thats 30 bucks on R180 and about R45 If youre doing the R230

Face it the worst part of this race is the petrol there.. the cost of accomodation etc etc which does not really have anything to do with them.

If we dont want to see more races like the Giro which was saved last minute almost going down the drain. then we are going to Have to start thinking differently.

Someone have mentioned here, and I agree with them, If theres nothing in it for me, Why should I even bother organising events like this? This race In particular Is organised by the Knysna Rotary, They are a Non profit Org. They are doing it as a service to us. nice people.

I will Easily pay R185 and ride my race , have a beer afterwards and go home than have to work round the clock for a week and stress about the weather etc all for Charity.

I guess I dont owe it to anyone to come up for these guys.. But there is always 2 sides to a story.

Im going to have to drive through to knysna on thursday eve now. As a pose to early the morning.Together with the rest of SA..easter traffic all the way to CX..what a sh*t-one.

Boss said If he lets me off He has to give the other peeps off aswel, and He is losing enough days as it is. Valid argument I gues.. still sucks.

Anyway. I will see you guys down In CX for the Race when that time comes. Mabe I wil throw my "offdays" in then and we can ride some sweet trails. Would dig to show you the "not so regular routes".

I did the road race last year.

Head wind the whole way back.

But I loved it. I am going back this year and no matter what the cost or the weather.

Although R185 for a national level race is fine anyway.

Come on, whats the use about moaning about the price when that will be the smallest part of your expenses to go there. smiley17.gif
