Hi

What shorts should I wear for a duathlon? Should I wear padded cycle shorts and jog in them, or wear normal jogging shorts and cycle without them being padded?

not such an issue, been done many times before. if it's not that long, then cycling shorts are fine. faris al sultan does ironman in a speedo!

best deal I could find in the cape was at the Cape runner. TYR tri shorts for about R250...

Can I wear a normal t-shirt with the shorts? Or should I also get one of those duathlon shirts? Perhaps jog with cycling shirt?

Most tri Suits that I saw was a complete suit.

You get some which looks like bibs but covers more than your nipplesWink

and others that have sleaves etc. I would say get one of these.

My only Tri was done in some old cycle shorts Which I put on underneth the wetsuit for the swim and then put on a cycle vest for the cycle (It was a light one more like a jogging shirt I might add.

And It was "fitted" so I looked more like the other okes instead of having a huge flapping shirt  with the tights.

Thinking of doing my first duathlon in 2 or 3 weeks. Was told not to spend to much money. The cycle is short, the run is the most important, so cycle in normal shorts and use a cycling shirt.

Cool, No Idea how Long the run was though..

I hear you on the speedo, I would also Rather do the no padding than do to much which I thought might kill you on the run.  Having said that I also did one in cycle shorts.

Is cape runner On strand street? Theres a shop there that had some at a stage.

If your bum can handle the bike distance of the race, my suggestion is run in running shorts.

Cycle legs are seldom longer than 40k's (60 min) in Duathlons, so you should be fine in them.

To run in padded cycling shorts is not very comfortable.

I dont knowe the tri shorts, so maybe a good alternative
