i'm with Slowbee on this as well. We are all supposed to have a rainyday fund. Insurances ties your money up in very inflexible ways. For big ticket items' date=' they are unfortunately the best option, but things like bikes, cameras etc, the insurance machine is sure to suck your dry and still give you stick when it's claim time.[/quote']

For me (and a few others, I guess), a R40k bike is a big ticket item... it's the single most valuable item I own (the car still belongs to the bank...)

R250-odd a month is cheap if it gets nicked or trashed.

I race mine, every weekendEvil%20Smile - Hell and Back all the way one day, RD broke off, lost controle and crashed, new shifters and chain and chain blade cuz a tooth brock off. One month later on a training ride at 4 in the morning midway to Silo's, Road bike RD broke off again and chain snapped. Last week Mtb race, cleat got chipped, foot came out at wrong time, crashed, broke saddle. - it's still early Mtb season, will claim a few more times this year for sure.

Will Cyclesure payout if i crash in a race?

They cover your bike for training and racing.

In addition you get personal liability cover of a million Rand. During official events you get Death/Disability cover of R20,000.00 and Medical Expense Cover of R10,000.00

Well it seems the Cyclesure is a safe bet. Need to get proper insurance as even though I use my entry level Giant to commute to work every day' date=' if some nucker tries to reposes it at a robot, it will cost me to have it replaced.

rather take the R200 or there abouts odd bucks and put it into the homeloan. If and when you need a new one take it out the homeloan. Bugger paying the insurnace man for a bike.

True if I had my own house and if I had to pay R200 - still need to get a quote. At R200pm I could replace my bike every 24mths.

you say that you can replace your bike every 2 years if you save R200 pm meaning the value is about 5k for your bike so your premium would be low. Do yourself a favour and go to Cyclesure.co.za there you fill out a form with your bike details, in minutes you recieve your quote.

Some of us needs to save half a decade to replace a bike, if we crash without ensurance its back to the 1k Peugeot hanging in the garage.

I received a quote today from Cyclesure. To ensure my bike valued at 25k + 2k of accessories would be about R190pm...

Pedalcare would be R177.30 per month for same value of goods.

Thanks for the advice, just did it and never saw how painless it is. All the other insurance sites make you feel as if you are doing them a favour instead. But anyway, will see what they say.

My bike is only R4500, but my accessories to replace is nearly R3K - Camelbak, leatherman, lights, helmet. I worked out that once I'm done, my entire setup will be worth R15K (after parts or new bike).

I just need to confirm how they insure your gear: shoes; jacket; etc

OK, just got my quote: R45 a month

I can live with that. See excess is 5% with a min R250

Wheel excess additional 10%

Theft/Hijacking additional 10%

So if my beloved commuter gets repossed with my camelbak and goodies I will pay R1050 excess to replace R7500 of goodies - now that I can afford

BTW, see they even have a section for your Camelbak and pump on the quote

HaHa, not sure its worth insuring your pump,........ but there you are.!

Insurance is like Medical Aid, you never know how good they are till you claim.
