I wouldn't touch the smarty's or the candy's either. They not eggbeaters really. I use the eggbeater ti's and a mate uses the eggbeater sl's. No problems with those babies. :)cyfermaster2009-05-06 06:44:14

There is very little wrong with either the Smarty or the Candy. Both work off the exact same principle as the Eggbeater except they are caged in. Same deal with the Shimano M520/40 and the PDM 647's.

The Smarty is a entry level pedal and is thus not quite up to the same level as the Candy.

I agree they both entry level pedals. Being caged in, to me, defeats the principle of the eggbeater. You only have 2 entry points, and the mud can build up, which is why I would never recommend those to anyone. Go proper eggbeater. :) Best pedal ever. :D

+1 time Atac XS. i used have knee problems until i got these puppies. Of course it helps that they looks good and weigh only 30g more than the eggbeaters.

I am getting great feedback on the new 2009 Quartz. Thumbs%20Up

what changed C?

They've beefed up the spring and the body a bit. It's now a more positive engagement and disengagement. (The body is also slightly modified for strength) The weight is slightly up(10g's) a pedal...but they are still light , compared to most pedals out there. Awesome mud clearance...best contact platform.... very lightweight....and Looks renowned axle... what more do you want?

TIME!!!

I've been riding mine since 03,  they do look a bit worse for wear, but still work like the day I got them, and I never have problems in mud.
