Lightest Disc Brakes???

Recommended Posts

Really?? KCNC V's are the reason I'm looking at getting Disc brakes now. But if I look at the weight of Disc setup I think I might be just as well off with my XTR's and aVID Single Dail lever set up, it's only about 550grams and the stopping power was far better than the KCNC's and a crap loa dmore reliable. Are all these weights being listed for the levers only? Can you not save weight on the discs?

"They" says that the KCNC ones are crap.

So do I ... Unless they have new ones.. I think they were called "wild boar" or something..

They are very primitive and CWC use to sell them I got them way back when I was "poor", they were R800 a pair.

There is not much to cut down on a disc. Some are lighter due to lack of metal but you do get alu and carbon fibre discs but those are not for general use nd only seen on concept bikes.

shot, manfrog. Was just wondering, cause on a motorbike, you need to look at the package as a whole, discs, callipers, levers and hoses... And there are weight savings and technical benefits to be made at each point.

forget saving weight on the breaks, just take off your derailleurs, cassette, shorten your chain and take off your shifters........you'll save a heap.......

without looking too closely at the numbers I'd say stay away from hayes and buy the hope mini's or the new version what ever they're called now........

The lightest setup you can go is with the R1 Carbon brake, (available only in Europe at the moment), Scrub rotors, Formula Ti pads (Again still only available in Europe)and a Fiberlyte carbon bolt kit. It'll cost more than your bike but it'll weigh allmost nothing.

Formula do about the lightest housing available, the Hope stuff comes close but does not quite make the mark.

Scrub do an in house fluid that is supposedly supposed to expand up to 3 times less than conventional dot brake fluid. This is also supposed to some how make it the lightest on the market.
