If you manage to put your underwear on the correct way, you should be able to change shifting cables. I actually think the cables are a bit easier if you are like me who removes the labels from your jocks. smiley36.gif

At school all my friends had their names on the labels on the jocks so for 12 years I thought my name was Woolworths.

slowbee, dont waste your R300 on that bike shop. Actually tell them for that kind of daylight robbery you will in future take your business elsewhere.

Do what was suggested and fiddle with your tensioning barrels. Then loosen the bolt and try and retighten and reset. DO NOT play around wih your limiting screws. Once you can do these 2 things all you need to master is prepping your cable outer. This is the most important thing in getting your new installation 100%. Oh, and measaure your cable outer to the same length as the current one if you are happy with your routing and it gives you no problems.

R300 to watch and ask questions!? What a joke!

Slowbee i have replaced the cables before myself - had  a bit of trouble to get enough tension on the cable afterwards' date=' so cycled around for a few days without the 3 biggest gears at the back, until someone showed me how to do it properly - maybe take your bike to the shop and let them show you how to do it? I only ever tried this at mike's bikes (asking to see what they do, and explain) and they were very helpful, even made me do some of the stuff myself to feel what it would feel like.

cat-i, thats part of my frustration, the bike shop wants to charge me an extra R300 to watch them do the cables and have me ask questions.

I dont mind paying, because with me asking questions it will take longer than normal and they are passing on expert knowledge knowing that I might not come back - but R300 bucks is a bit much

R300 forlabour and training is too expensive...??!!!

I thnk it's way too cheap!

they should charge you R500 to watch + labour.

I do find this amusing. Customer wants bike shop to teachhim how toput the bike shop out of business...
