Moab Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 ...will push us to ride harder. harder to achieve what? Even if you come last you will still get the same medal as the guy that came 4th. I was referring to the comrades concept. If you have medals for different times you come in, it will make you push harder to achieve a better medal. In general, I enjoy racing and thus like getting the medal as a reminder of the race.
Tumbleweed Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 what if we created adnouns? kinda like adverbs' date=' but differetn. like my spelling of the last word... [/quote'] ? What "word"? ? I think I peaked at Horribly, Clunky & Brash. ? I've started a grammarian fight without the stomach to finish it. ? Sorry HR i meant my spelling of "differetn"...
Captain Slow Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I say dump the medals & Tees and rather give value for money by dropping the high entry fees and rather give a more 'festive' type after-race hospitality area where families and friends can have a jol after a long & hard ride. ...and, if it is a road race, rather spend it on more marshalls and or get Thinkbike involved where full road closure is not done!!Captain Slow2009-05-28 08:17:20
TCRCARBON Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Do I look like i need more medals - T shirts will be fine thanks!!!!!!!

knippie Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 Sorry, my mistake!I got the "I want my medal" in the wrong spotAnd it doesn't show on the poll!My thought is to give medals to beginner distances like 10-20km races and try and get something of more worth to the first 100 finishers of the other distances. Like a t-shirt of good quality material.
knippie Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 I like your thinking TCR Carbon! knippie2009-05-28 08:21:58
Ryan Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 bottle openers. East rand bottle openers' date=' in other words, lighters or teeth ? [/quote'] Do you know why Hansa comes with a screw off top...? ......... so girls can drink it too.
gremlin Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I liked the Maratua Race. You got A T-Shirt, bottle of wine and a medal.
slabs Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Strange how we are creatures of habit - collected my race number for Magalies Monster and all I got was the number... no goodie bag. BUT thinking of it both the medals I get and the goodie bags get discarded quite quickly and thats it! So unless there is something to market, there might not be much point in getting anything but the satisfaction of doing the race... Saying that people like to get things for 'free' and ask anyone completing their first race whether they want a medal and they will say YES! As for the Magalies, I actually was also one of the lucky ones to get a T-shirt. Another one to add to all the running t-shirts and golf shirts you get. Hard to please everyone...
gremlin Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 As they said before also rather than a Goodie Bag give us a worsroll and a beer when you finish. With some races in the MTN series we got a pie and a drink.
Wallee Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Medals Schmedals. T-shirts for me. They should actually cost race organisers less money than medals because t-shirts give sponsors long term exposure, which they are willing to pay for.
jagwil Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Also not wild about using nouns as verbs "He medalled" "She podiumed" Horribly clunky and brash (sounds like a good name for a firm of solicitors) Blaaaarrrggh. But I'll let Jagwil lead the charge on that one if he likes. Not today.I am not going to lead the charge on either of those statements.
TCRCARBON Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I know. What about a Tshirt with a picture of a medal and water bottle on it
