Club100 or Cyclelab

Kansas

Recommended Posts

Hi

I wuld like to know from you the hubbers what club will you say is the better of te two? Club100 or Cyclelab?

I would like to join one of the two but would first like to know what you think.

Club100 fees are R900 incl: kit

Cyclelab fees are R400 but need to buy kit for R400.

R100 is not a big difference but would like to join the best.

Also the year is half way, should I join this year, or join my local club until the new year?

Thanks Hubbers

Depends what you want to get out of your club. Club 100 seems to have a better racing setup or are more geared towards events and competitive cycling while Cyclelab seems to be more of a social club. location is also important, it is nice to be close to the club so you can cycle to group rides and meet other members in your area.

I joined Clab halfway through the year in 08, and only paid half the joining fees.

I dont know anything about Club 100, but the Lab setup ito racing is very jacked up.

Live in Alberton, joined the Heidelberg club, cause its closer than 4ways. It depends what you want from your club, I am not too concerned about any of the social stuff etc, but what I do like is:

- Ride mag subscription as part of benefits

- able to get discount when purrchasing from Clab

- ITO getting tips & experience from one of SA's best Andrew M, you cannot go wrong.

Lab has about 5000 members countrywide, for what that is worth.

I'm also still shopping around and have received very good feedback about JHB mountain bike club (much cheaper, and very organised ito organizing weekend rides etc.)

Unfortunately no discounts in purchasing from Clab or magazine benefits etc... but then thats not the end of the world!

Best would be to do at least two rides with each club in your area and ascertain the vibe amongst the members and yourself as each area is different.

I have been with both. Club 100 is great with group rides but are more racing orientated. Look at the annual renewal fees. I changed because of this. Annual fees for Club 100 are more than for the Lab but I feel you get very little in comparrisson.

I personally feel that for what you pay, you get more out of the Lab. You get the stuff that Trubie said plus I feel that the Lab communicates really well with members!

Club 100 and as you say R100 is nothing. Very well structured club and if I am not mistaken if you join now you will only pay for half the year.

Club 100 are very jacked up in both road and Mtn biking, they have now joined up with Northern Farms, and have an excellent deal if you are just Mtn biking....

Club 100, they are much friendlier...... A Lab rider swearing at slower riders in FRONT of him on the single track at the spring Classic MTB race was enough..

I am with the Lab and feel it is great value for money. The racing and social sides are both excellent. The club rides are great. I would recommend joining it.

Cycle Lab is a great club. very organized club rides, both road and mtb. Very good communication with members re. social events and informative talks. Unsurpassed hospitality at all the major races. Despite what many may think, the members are actually very friendly and there is a great vibe between everyone during and especially post-ride at the coffee shop.

Hi Kansas 2009

I manage the National Club of Cycle Lab Supercycling. We have 7 provincial secretaries (JHB, PTA, CT, KZN, MPU, Heidelberg, PE). I am not sure where you live but suggest that you try out (as the hubbers are saying) a few rides at both the clubs. Our fees go to R200 for the subs from 1 July but you are more than welcome to ride with us till July as a guest or untill you make a decision (once riding with both clubs).

If you send me your email addres i will add you to our weekly newsletter database and to keep you informed as to the rides and other 'goings on'. If you are a roadie or a MTB'er our weekend rides depart at 7am from Cycle Lab Design Quaarter (if that is your closest club)
Feel free to mail me on ali@cyclelab.com and i will respond immediately from my phone so that you can ride with us tomorrow if you like.
Chat soon, enjoy the ride!

I'm not even a member at 'the lab' but I can only say that their (Ali and Andrew) concern and offers of assistance when I fell at the bike park were highly appreciated!
