Bicycle shop shocker

Maybe I am a coward for not naming any names here, but having my bicycle serviced yesterday at one of the largest cycling retailers in Johannesburg yesterday and the absolute lack of interest or knowledge of what is really going on out in the field was a absolute shocker.

To these guys it?s all about making money, selling stock and turnover.

If the manager of this establishment ? I guess has NEVER even been on a bicycle his entire life, then you have to wonder if it is a good idea to even deal with people like this?

Don?t get me wrong they have the best range of stock ? but unfortunately that?s where it ends.

Isnt most business's about turnover?

I think if a business is purely about turnover then it is very short sighted!!

Yes, a business needs to make money to survive, but pushing turnover and neglecting service & ethics, then that business will not last.

SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE, in these trying times it is not just about price, but how a supplier deals with you!

The problem first of all was an absolute lack of interest in how I would have liked my bike to be setup. I needed to have my back shock re-adjusted to my current weight and I thought while they are servicing my bike, why not do it by the ?experts? well they guessed how it was done and did not follow any technical guidelines to do so.

When I fetched my bike after the service, I asked if there was any major ware and tare or other problems ? Oh my word, it was like asking a brick wall ? the blank stare I got from the technician gave me the impression that the lights were on but Eskom was supplying not enough voltage to sustain it. I need to know these things, since I am competing in a lot of events and must have my bicycle setup 100%. LOL

I tried to elaborate on some technical data about the bicycle it self and no one could give me any information. What I know of my bicycle I had to gather from the internet myself and other Hubbers.

Am I wrong to expect that if you sell these things surely you should know more than, it has two wheels and a handlebar?

Surely if you service your car its not just a matter of changing the oil and filters?

 LOL

With so many brands to choose from and so many people peddling these items it is now SERVICE or lack thereof that is the decider most of the time. Prices rarely come into it as they are pretty standard everywhere give or take a few rand.

Find a reputable bike mechanic and stick to him (preferably one that does not work at a bike shop), or learn how to do things yourself.

I've used many bike shops and have yet to have a problem with Linden Cycles. I've become so impressed with them that I use them exclusively now. It's a little far from my house, but I think it's well worth the drive. Use it, don't use it.

Lets ask the Hub's "Powers that be" to open an official NAME and SHAME forum...... we can all complain there - they can moderate it and make sure we don't bash the retailers to much......  retailers can go and have a look at the forum and place their official response / reason.....

Now I guess some IT dude sitting behind a M03r of a bigg screen is monitoring this......

Maybe if I use some swear word they will look at this mail...F$@^$#ed! M0er Bl!ksem!!!!  Porn xxx ...........  oops I can click on contact us at the top.......
