droo Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 NO!! My new ride just eats it for breakfast and spits it out behind me. Even the Lebanon main drag on Sunday was too short for me.
STEEL Niner Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 That single track at rooiberg was just insane, true SA bush track, some soft sand, some loose rocks, some bigger jagged rock gardens tight, twisty, flowing and just pure fun, up and down!! It was not your typical cultivated forest or plantation bull, purely using the terrain that the man upstairs has layed down and making it MTB ridable, AWESOME! The congestion was not bad either making you push your own limits and skill to the max. Cant wait till next year!!!!!!!! Who knows i might even use a shock.......
KevinT Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 The story is that one of the pro's bashed a pedal against a rock causing a shower of sparks resulting in a fire.   The organisers had to shorten the course for +- half of the field as it was too dangerous to ride through.
cat-i Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 this tour is ON my to-do-list for next year!!!! on passing on singletrack ... rode the xc-course in the bikepark on friday, my first thoughts were - wow, have to come - but then realised there's no way i would enjou it in a race, because not fast enough on the bits where you can pass, and would prolly be stuck behind people on the juivcy bits  how do the fast people do it - jut get to the singletrack first? or is it possible to pass?Â

The same principle applies - get on the brakes later, dive into the inside of the corner and be faster through the corner. I know it seems crazy to ride next to each other on singletrack, but it can be done. Total rush!  Â

Sounds like a total revamped race from last year!!!!! 60km of single track - I would've been sitting with smile till next week! ok ok next year I'll be there. Will just book accommodation cause tent gets freaken cold in Rooiberg in June

Sometimes the single track was soooo long AND challenging that finding a smooth track long enough to take a bottle out for a drink was a problem! I was well beaten up after Day 1.Possibly the only improvement would be to have half of Day 1's single track in day 2. Day 1 was almost all single track and Day 2 almost all jeep track/dirt road. Steel Niner - you're a nutter  Steel On-One is not far behind! Â
steve moss Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 The Rooiberg was really great - and it would have been nice to have some more single track on the second day, specially in the last half of the race.Single track is what we need. I hope the fire doesn't cause a problem with future land access, the fire was small and seemed to be coming from the left when I went thro and hadn't appeared to cross the single track..
