Hi again people

I'd just like to know if you guys experience the same problem when you ride sometimes....

Not only at yesterdays ride, but at other rides as well, I get this numbing feeling in my fingers and parts of my hands, and like yesterday my fingers were actually getting bloody sore.. any advice??

Get some good gloves with adequate cushioning. Will make a huge difference (Try out the Specialized BG gloves. I cut out the padding from some old BG gloves and sewed them onto new Giant gloves. Works like a dream, New Specialized were way too expensive!).

Numb hands is typically a sign of incorrect setup. You could have too much weight on your hands or you could have the wrong width handlebar. Also, the ulnar nerve pressure can be relieved with good gloves (see post above re BG gloves) but try and address this with a good fitting.

I think the medical term is "handlebar palsy". I had same problem after the 94.7. If you Google the term, there is some concerning statements indicating that it might lead to permanent damage, ect.

Bike fitting should take care or at least lessen the problem. Worked for me!

I had a similar problem a few weeks back and someone told me to put less pressure on the hands. this seemed to work on the ride the weekend but I did find the more fatigue set in the more I rested on my palms and less weight was taken by the lower back. And I found a good combat to the tingling / Numbness was just take a second or two to hold your hand like a stop sign and flick the fingers a few times it seemed to help my

It depens where the problem is coming from. your hands or from the spine.

Try and check how tight your gloves are and what position your necks in; if the saddle handlebar height difference is to big it might be part of it. does the numbing feeling spread over th whole hand or only in a part for example pinky and ringfinger only?

The numbing feeling comes over about half the hand, from the pinky finger to the middle finger.. but thanks Matchstix, I will try all the options you've mentioned and see if it helps Smile..

I developed this same problem 15 years ago when riding a mountain bike with no suspension from Israel to South Africa. I still have tingling in the left side of my left hand and full sensation has never returned.

I would take it seriously and try all options. The damage can be permanent if not taken care of.

If that does not work try this: Remove your handlebar tape then maskingtape some 4mm x 30mm foam rubber strips by your normal hand riding position, then refit bar tape.

Alternatevely buy the thickest handlebar tape and double over your ext bar tape. No more sore hands

The thing is I don't have any tape on my handlebar, I've got foam bar grips and they feel really really comfortable, but I'll the try the bar tape.
