Trubie Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Let me make it clear! Not even this will help. I've just been ripped off by a very so called reputable seller who has been shamed before.I've asked him a simple question as to how he is going to remedy the situation. I have one suggestion. There should be a list of reputable sellers and buyers. This sucks big time. So are you gonna tell us who the scammer is?
amateur Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Why not just when you want to buy something from someone or sell something to someone, and you are not sure about them, just simply ask the question on the hub, and poeple will comment about their dealings, then decide, simple as that. I don't agree with a rating system as it will never work, and asking admin to put a star rating or something on is also not going to work, he doesn't have the time from what I understand. also if you do a list you have to add every person on the hub and that is way to much, Just open a thread and ask about someone if you are not sure, simple!!! This rating thing gets suggested every few months for the last 2 years now, it's not going to happen clearly as it won't work here on the hub. If you want a system go to E-bay or something. Us hubbers are a breed of our own and not everything on other sites work here.

I have concluded many sales on eBay on the basis of very positive feedback from sellers, but many foreign sellers still don't trust sending to Africa and baulk at the low purchase count (about 30 items). They are basing their decision purely on the rating value without looking at the substance. Posting the question "Is this hubber to be trusted?" is as effective a mechanism as any out there. Still an element of risk but you are trading with people you don't know, so risk is always part of the equation.
Bos Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Amateur On previous page, just made a great point. Just ask around. The rating thing wil not work, because someone is going to have to get burned first before he can give the seller a bad rating. I think asking or in this case mabe asking the seller to take the Item to a LBS could work, I didnt see this working the otherday, but for this reason I think one could work it. I got burned onse by a guy calles Steve Woolshagh or something, he had a website up, the wole thing, I exchanged about 20 e-mails to the guy and he bailed with R3500 of mine which I was going to get a fork for. the guy slipped away with about 50 k worth of stuff. He is up in Johannesburg Im down in CT. I never got it back. Bottom line, You are taking a risk doing stuff longdistance. If doing stuff face to face, have your guard up.

So you can express your interest to the seller and then tell him that you want to check their credentials first and then you'll finalise the deal. If the seller is legit he won' mind as he willhave nothing to hide and the deal can still take place same day! my 2 cents
owen62 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 What about introducing a "verified member" system where by a hubber is verified ligit by aother hubbers who act as ambassadors - this can appear on his profile - if he is not verified then let the buyer beware. At least then you will be buying from a hubber who is known by another hubber.

That is how it works in swinging circles - so I've heard (no comments on this one please!!)
Faikar Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Stopping newbies from selling is fine as long as they are stopped from buying as well.
KaKa Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 so i better start posting posts just to post a post so i might sell something as i need to post many posts before i can post a sale post. so I am posting a post
Iwan Kemp Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hmmm...not a bad idea. But the problem is most people join to buy or sell...then they get into all the crap talking and the rest.
JarradVZ Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Don't think it will work. A lot of genuine sellers join only to sell something. I bought a mint Stumpjumper off a guy with only 4 posts. Nicest guy in the world and he was pretty upset with people calling him a rat on the thread. A handful of skelms have just made us super suspicious.
