I have always used Conti Mountain King UST and would like to know if the Mountain king Protection could be used as UST or is it advisable to use the UST for this purpose.

Yup, you can use them but you will be topping up your sealant quite regularly. They also lose some air. Go for the tubeless if you want hassle free tubeless riding. Go Protection if you dont mind checking your air and sealant levels on a regular basis.

I believe the Tubeless is thicker but not sure if this makes it stronger. Have a tyre of each here that I can check out but it wont be until the weekend. I rode the Tubeless and never had a hassle. The Protection is a mates tyre running a tubeless conversion. Cannot comment on his experience.

I have tried it. The sidewall is not 100% and has micro holes that lose air; Use tubeless.

Go for Schwalbe Racing Ralphs - 520g for a tubeless tyre - super fast

I use the Mountain king 2.2 UST - awesome tires. Rather go UST than Protection, the slight extra weight is worth it.

Use the "protection" as a "ust" if you like inflating tires a lot. I tried it. It is a pain in the butt to try to get the Protection to seal its sidewalls.

Tx all, really appreciate the comments. I will stick with the UST then, Typical trying to save some weight somewhere. My Merida team is just above 10KG and thought going to "protection" would bring it below 10KG.
