In my case reducing the calories consumed and increasing the amount burnt.

Luckily this option has fringe benefits if done right. Wink

Carbon stem, handlebar, seatpost = R2500

USN Phedra Cut = R250      (fineprint: in accordance with correct diet)

If you are a 60kg rider on a 9kg hardtail, then not too sure where to go from there.

If you are 115 rider on a 16kg full susser, then there are some options.

Tell us about your situation.

A lot of the answers here will be to eat less or go to the toilet...

Try http://weightweenies.starbike.com/ for some pointers.

You will pay R10 000  per kg on a lighter bike and bits if your bike weight is 13kg.

You will pay 10 000 to cut 100 grams if your bike weight is 10.5kg.

you pay zero to layoff that fast food and do miles - even save money!!

don't get fooled that carbon bits are lighter. If you do go for the light and strong option you will be paying a fortune.

def wheelset, those wheels are a tank. i might have a set of wheels for sale soon. american classic hubs, dt revolution spokes, brand new ztr 355 rims(waiting for rims to arrive). Wheelset weighs in at 1380 gr. Going to sell for R6000 if you keen.

id say the wheelset - that is the most expensive & depending on what you have, could shed about a 1000g but then you are looking at some serious wheels to cut that amount of weight

PS: im basing this on what i have. Im looking at some or another stage upgrading my wheels to american classics & currently i have alex rims. Im not heavy at all 56kg so bulking up would be more of an option for me but light bike + light rider = faster riding or at least so ive tricked myself into thinking. Im still slower than most of my freinds & my HT is now weighing in at 11.1

when i change the wheels it will come down to +-10

Am I correct in saying that your built up wheels weight the same as Shimano XTR wheelset?

I am thinking of new tyres to cut weight - currently riding Maxxis crossmark/monorail???

What are light strong tyres? Need to get my S-works stumpy closer to 10.5?? Already have the XTR crank set.

jip.. thats why Im thinking of getting a HT.. I can start putting one together from old parts and If I spend some cash on it I wil get it around 11kg quick quick..

I wil have to spend about 10k to get this bike near 11.. then I stil only have one.. also this bike Is amaxingly good.. I keep her.. Like Manfrog said.. light and strong.. Its very expencive.

I could get a 1.5kg wheelset for this.. shave of 400g..

then a xt crankset.. shave 150g...

fork? mabe a new sid? 300g..

thats R5000 + R1500 + R5000 = 11500 .. then Im only at 12 kg...

I have been doing these sums in my head for the last year.. Its not worth it.

Like Im saying.. Im busy with a Ht.. Its going to probably weigh 12 from the start..but throw in a carbon frame, and some old crosmaxx Veebrake wheels which I should pick up somewere for about 3k and Im already around 10.5 kg..
