what utter crap!

Gosh, some of you guys really get upset about nothing.  This is the Hub, everyone is entitled to their opinion.  If you don't like the thread, read another one.

I think HR made some interesting points which were worth pointing out/discussing.

Oh and, in my experience, its the funriders (using that to describe the average person who cycles for fun and does not follow international cycling religiously, not as a derogatory term) who follow Lance blindly because they don't yet know that there is more to cycling.

Lastly, LA is a celebrity and will, as such, have to put up with flak.  If he wasn't up for it, he could have remained in retirement and stayed away from the spotlight.  As cycling fans, we are entitled to discuss him and, yes, even criticise him.  Just because we aren't as good as him (and lets face it - only a handful of guys in the world are) doesn't mean we have to shut up and not discuss him and his race along with the others.

Okay, i figured that the only way to sort this out is:

a) Handbags at 10 paces

b) dirty words accross the office.

Why do we have to get personal when we cannot make someone see our point of view?

I am no expert in the tactics of cycling. I do however understand sponsorship and who pays the bills.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

What baffles me in all of this is that there is no doubt AC is the strongest by far and will' date=' baring an accident or mechanical in the last three stages, win this Tour. And this has been pretty obvious from stage 15 up to Verbier.

Then surely from a team/ sponsors/ Managers/ team members point of view it only makes sense for the team to look at securing 2nd and 3rd place in the GC, which was certainly on the cards.

I can only conclude that if there is a non team player in Astana, it must be AC who with his attack which left Kloden out of contention for a podium in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Paris, showed us he is only interested in his victory and nothing else.

If I had 4 million Euro I would certainly think twice before signing Mr. Contador onto my team.

Just my 2c worth.

ok, imagine this?

Thats the problem, imagination is running wild like a rabid troll with no water under his bridge...

One thing you all must agree on, is that with Lance back, everybody have something to cheer for suddenly. Weather its for him or against him.

Lance has been vindicated when he said the '08 tour was a joke, all the top boys from last year are nowhere to be seen this year.

At least last year we could cheer for Barloworld, imagine lance wasnt here this year, how boring it would've been.

I dont mind Lance, just one thing, I wish the commentators would stop sucking him off so much. Everything AC does gets compared to LA, give AC the credit he deserves without mentioning LA in the same breath for once

ok, imagine this?you're signed by johan bruyneel cos he tell you he sees the same drive in you as he does in lance. you work your ass off. you become the man who has won all three grand tours in the shortest time. you are looking forward to reclaiming the title you were denied defending because of someone else getting caught for doping. then, all of a sudden you're told that you are no longer #1 on your team.

This no. 1 argument is way over done, I honestly believe it depends on the situation and the form the rider has at the particular event. Astana had 3 maybe even 4 possible contenders, when one showed his superiority then he becomes no. 1. Look at Wiggins /Vander Velde who?s the number 1? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Had LA dropped AC on the climb to Verbier and showed consistently that he was the stronger then surely it would make sense for the team to get him to <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Paris in first place. And with a team like Astana 2nd and 3rd must have always been on the cards.

Read the whole thread first - the who in his experience said that only funriders follow lance blindly - I was responding to that!!
