To control those wheels, keep you hands on the brake hoods with a lil' extra weight

Be extra careful:

With side gusts.

With passing cars and trucks.

The feeling of slight swerving is unavoidable.

You'll get used to it.

That passing truck thing can really catch you by surprise. eek.gif

Yeah, I've had a couple of near crashes with that swirl of fast moving air.

D Lizzy also commutes now. She has to pay attention to that....

Yeah last night's ride home was a bit scary! The wind was a bit hectic and add to that a couple of big trucks that came by a tad too close! Needless to say, I was very happy when I got home in one piece!

You're unlikely to fall over - just a tad more focus required.

When I'm not in the mood for extra concentration, then I roll out my ordinary hoops.

But for race day, they're stunning!

Hey Dizzy, in all my years of commuting I've learnt that the best result from the truck crew is to turn your head around and let them know that you have heard them and looked back at them. Preferably in the eye. More often then not they slow down a little and give you a wider berth when it is safe to do so. When I commute I ride with the mantra of thinking for the people in cars around me and show them to slow down and when it is safe to come by and a hearty smile and thank you wave when they show me consideration. It makes a HUGE difference to the experience out on the road, as opposed to riding head strictly forward as close as you can to the shoulder hoping people will do the right thing when they go past and those nerve shattering moments when you just know they're closer than you feel comfortable with.

I'll try that! I've been leaning more back onto the rear wheel though, which now that I think of it, is wrong. Thanks for the headsup!

I'm taking the wheels for a couple more spins this week to see if I feel comfortable enough for Die Burger, if not, then I'll just use my other wheels.

The high heels (um deep sections) for race day for the win! You have to roll with them on race day! You will be so pleasantly surprised!

These are loaner wheels to see if I like them or not... And then I'll get my own set!

They're scary fast and still taking some getting used to being thrown around a bit when it's windy! If anyone has tips on how to overcome that, please let me know!

EDIT: Then the next upgrade is a saddle and nicer looking bottle cages! thumbup1.gif

Seriously...does it really make such a big difference?

It's an obvious gain.

Yebo.

But can be in the heavier side and not best for climbing.

Is anyone interested in an early morning ride tomorrow before work? Pace is nothing too hectic, just to get some miles in. I have to be in Somerset West by 9am, so would need to be done by 7:30 at the latest!
