I rode the CFR giant, don't get me wrong, it was a great ride up to about 90km's, after that smileys/smiley18.gif just paaiin!!

back to the topic... amoryns' date=' much as the scott IS a very nice bike, the "effective" 49 cm is too big for you. the specialised has a long reach - again, you won't get the right fit and size (sorry, but us shorties have to suffer, expecially here in SA where we have and even smaller selection than in europe).

for the size you need (and want.. at least you've done your research) you are stuck with the options of Giant or Raleigh (unless you're looking at spending more than R20k) and in those options there can be only 1 winner. the utter no-brainer option is go for Giant. (if you want to know how the giant rides then come along on our hill ride on saturday and take m babes for a spin - wellgo pedals so look cleats will work fine)

The Giant and the Scott are virtually the same size. In fact if you take the head tube and seat angle into account you will get a 'smaller' feeling bike from the Scott.

At the end of the day it's your money and either one will work for you so go with the bike that makes you want to go and ride every day. I have a friend who swears by the Giant and as a frame builder he would know, I on the other hand ride a Scott and can vouch for its durability and smooth handling.

Yes, but all Speedsters. Was once tempted by Cruxxies Team Cr1, but didn't pursue it when I found out that it had a non-replaceable derailleur hanger.

Replaceable derailleur hangers are secondary to me. The only time it is an issue is when you are involved in a crash and personally I would not ride a carbon frame after it was involved in a crash. Phone the insurance company and get a new one!

Well not all Scott CR1's dont have a replaceable hangers, and other than that, a scott is a great bike!

Agreed Hanco! Scott really kicks Giant's butt, believe what you may.

I further disagree that Giant's carbon weaving is superior, absolute rubbish. The reason Scott does not provide a replacable hanger is because the replacement rate was so low that they will simply replace the frame.

I'm not a Scott Rep, just a huge fan. Also own a Scott Scale 20 full carbon MTB frame. What a honey!! Sweetest ride I ever had. Shut up v d Spoel, ek weet wat jy nou weer gaan chirp.

Amoryn: Have you had a look at the Trek WSD (women specific) frames?  They come in sizes 47, 51, etc.  I'm looking at the Madone 5.2 WSD... I know that Cyclelab do have a 47cm Trek 1500 WSD in stock, so before you make up your mind maybe you should go have a look, & it's definitely way under R20k. They come with the narrower handlebars, women specific saddle, the works. They will do your bike fitting for free as well.

MAN WITH NO NAME: die derailler hanger is 'n probleem. Ons het 2 jaar terug ons derailler hanger op die tandem gebreek en dit was helse missie om dit te replace. As ek nou 'n raam koop, moet dit kan hou. Geld groei nie op my rug nie...so dis hoekom ek orals opinies soek oor verskillende tipe rame. Scott is great mtb ja, maar road??????

I don't think there will be much of a noticalbe difference between the top frames like Scott CR1, Giant TCR, 6-13, Trek, Cervelo R3 & Soloist, Bianci's etc. They are all very good. Yes, there is a difference in weight, as much as 100 or 200 grams, and in a lab the difference in stiffness can be measured, but you won't notice it on the bike, and it wont make a difference to your time in any race in SA!

Therfore imo the best choice is the frame which 1. Fits your body best 2. You like the most!

Only other factor to include is price.

But the most important thing is fit and that you like your bike! If a bike does not fit me and I don't like the look of it I will not care how stiff or good or what not it is.

man with no name, i take it you ride a scott. no-one has said scott isn't a good bike so chill out and stop trying to "bash"giant to justify your views.

giant is a phenomenally good bike and having test ridden a scott i can say they are also stunners. the geonetry and reach, however, of the scott does NOT suit short ladies, unless you've got really long arms. you can only go "so short" witha stem and then you are stuck. having met amoryns i know that other than being skinnier than me, and maybe 2-3cm taller, her proportions are similar (leg length and reach on the the bike) so i can safely say that she should (for best fit) chose between raleigh and giant in terms of her price range.

the scott is definately larger than the giant due to the difference in frame geonetry, if it weren't i might well have been riding one (to get the seat the right height there was only about half a hand-width of seat post showing... it actually couldn't go much lower).

If size is an issue, my best advise would be the WSD from Trek.
