Hi all

I am new to the forum and new to cycling in the sense that i am now starting to look at the different component types etc. I previously had a Scott S6 (Sora comp) then Giant TCR (Ultegra 9psd) both sold as time past with the intension of getting me something better. I am now considering building up a bike and looking around at different frames (Cervelo/Specialised/Giant etc). My problem now comes in when deciding which groupset to use SRAM or Campagnola or do I stay with Shimano.

Can someone pls inform me about the different SRAM groupsets and also the different groupsets in the Campagnola range?

And how do they compare to the Shimano range.

6 of the one, half a dozen of the other. All does the same thing. What is your budget? Get the Ultegra from Chris Willemse Cycles and go ride and stop worrying what people think and say about you or your ride.

Campagnolo all the way bud.

Go check the campagnolo web site and decide 4 urself, they have low entry level ranges like zenon and mirage, but have a look at the Centuar, Chorus, Record and if you have a huge budget then check the baby of all babies, SUPER RECORD its niiiiiiice

Fowlstart, he actually needs to say which frame he is getting. There is nothing worse then Campy on a Trek or Raleigh or Shimano on a Pinarello or Willier.

The new Ultegra 6700 looks awesome.

At that price, you cant go wrong.

Or maybe, Sram Force from Icycling for R8K if you wanna be different.

Both will be a nice upgrade to your 9spd Ultegra, but they are not gonna make you ride much faster...

Damn i thought i'd b the first to open the can hahaha

I do agree with Mamps a bit though, CWC are having a great special on that groupset, so if budget is an issue then check it out it might b ur best bet.

I didn't say that. . . . . . . NOOOOOOO lol.

All 3 groupsets do exactly the same. They change gear when you press a button/lever. They brake (not break) when you squeeze a lever and they make the bike move forward when you press on the pedal with your foot.

You cannot say any one is better than the other, they all do their job perfectly (ignor the Shimano bashers, there is nothing wrong with it).

All 3 are different in appearance and all three have different ways of shifting. Choose the one that fits your pocket and the one that makes your bike look the coolest.

From the responses you can clearly make out that different people has different preferences. I not actually trying to determine which make is the best cause I sure at 15k to 20k for groupset (SRAM Red/Campag Record) they should be damn good. I would actually expect them to have voice recognition at those prices. I would actually like to determine from each range which is the best. Like someone said look at Campag Centaur or Chorus or Record but I don?t even know which 1 of the 3 is the top of range.

Sram- Red

           Rival

Shimano - Dura ace

                 Ultegra

                 105

In my opinion the rival is in between ultegra and 105

Thank Matchstix + Mampara that is what I needed.

Now for the approximate prices (New)? That way I'll work out what is budget should be spent on.

I was think either Cervelo or Specialised or Orbea.

Obviously you have not ridden Shimano long enough to know they have sh*t after sale service / warranty.  Cry

Each to own I guess.......
