Buying a bike online.....

I have come accross an add in various classifieds for a bike distributor called:-

"MY BIKE PLACE ltd" - Google "Mybikeplace Trek 2009" to see the add.

The advert lists many bikes and their prices in US dollars.  The distributor claims to be registered in the UK and will UPS your bike to you.

Their prices seem too good to be true.  New Trek Fuel EX9 2009 for $1900.

My question is to everyone who cares to enlighten me.  Has anyone bought a bike through " MYBIKEPLACE"? What was your experience with them?

Alternatively have you bought a bike, internationally, over the web and do you have any advice?

I wouldn't even consider it. Anything which seems to good to be true, mostly is. Think it is the same company which someone posted on here. My advice, ignore it

Ja that is my initial feeling.

If on the other hand there is someone out there who was brave enough to deal with them and had a good experience I'd be keen to know.

I would advise against buying a complete bike online. A full bike incurs a high import duty plus you dont have the luxury of reliable backup.

Sound advice.

But backup aside if you could get a bike at half price and your import tax was 15% from US (reliable source) wouldn't it be worth it?

Still worth investigating.

That is just the VAT. Import duty is on top of that. I doubt you would save enough on a complete bike to make the risk worthwhile. My 2c worth.

Phone shops around you. I am sure you will pick up many sweet deals. Some of the shops are even advertising on The Hub.

If you want to buy a bike online rather stick to the more reputable places like Chain Reaction Cycles, Como Bike etc.

Stay away from an unknow place.

I am currently canvasing everyone.

Some of the 2010 bikes are going to be out soon too and from what I hear they are similarly priced and in some instances cheaper then the 2009 stuff.
