Hi Guys

I managed to end up with an american handbuilt 2003 Trek 5500 oclv and a 2006 Scott CR1 Team frame. I now have to build a brand new Dura Ace groupo onto one of the two and have no idea which one to keep and which one to sell? They are both size 58 and both are immaculate in condition.

Any ideas???

My opinion.

Sell the Trek and keep the Scott.

Trek is very dated, while the Scott hasn't changed.

Reality:

Have you ridden either? How do they feel and which one fits you better?

Thanks for the advice.

Currently recovering from an op and as recovery motivation, I'm putting one of these bikes together. Have unfortunately not ridden either...

Then again, you will probably get more for the Scott if you were to sell that. Trek is probably worth R3 500, the Scott would sell for R6 000 odd.

Having said that, I too would keep the Scott. It is much nicer looking and probably a bit lighter too (not that looks and weight are the be all)

I added the weight part for the weight weenies, for me looks is good enough, but if we take the expert's (who ever they may be) advice, the others would be........

geometery, stiffness, responsiveness, comfort, paint type, brand name, brand name..................did I mention brand name.

I vote for the Scott - the fact that it is still in production today is some testament to the fact that it is a fairly good design.

Here is a link to a review on PEZ:

If I were you, I would sell the Trek to a Lance worshiper, and have the Scott resprayed in this 2009 scheme with the money: (best looking CR1 ever imo)

Thanks for the food for thought guys - much appreciated.

Popped into CycleLab in Durban yesterday and got them to measure the Scott up - it is a perfect fit. So I think the Scott is the lucky number!
