Hi

My Anthem x1 has some play on the aluminum bushes which press into top and bottom of fox shock.

Is it viable to get some one to machine a set of bushes from aluminum or vesconite, or should I rather just purchase the bushes from Fox??

Are you talking about the alaminium redurers or the bushes? Chances are you're going to have to replace both. I've read of guys using non-fox bushes (part no 08DU08), but I struggled to find them locally. I would suggest if you plan to go that route that you measure up the bush carefully and see if your bearing supplier can find a similar bush. The Fox origionals set me back R80 per bush which I thought was steep.

As for the reducers, I guess you could get a set machined but make sure you get it all sized properly as everything needs to sit together quite tightly. I got mine from the shop where I got my bike as it is bike specific. I have subsequently found the Fox spec sheet for reducers on the Fox Tech site, so that you can just get any bike shop to order for you through the local agent. I got my LBS to fit the bush and reducers as it is something you could get wrong.

Yea, sorry I am talking about pivot bushes, maybe I will take the shock, and the (bolt/pivot??) that goes through to a engineering shop, and ask them what they think.

where is the play?? I have nearly 6000km on mine and they are perfect, so I am wondering?

The bolt has a fair amount of play through the aluminium reducers. But there must be no play between the reducers and the bush (a pressed in insert in the shock itself)

So where is it?

Sorry, I am talking about the aluminum reduces.

Do you think that the wear would be on the bush, or the reducer??

O Dear, were is Johan Bornman when u need him??

Having very recently incurred the expense of making a set of bushes for a load shock I gave to someone whilst fixing his original, I recommend you just buy the Fox bushes. A fitter charged me R280 for two bushes and there is play them. I didn't have the time to throw them back at him, since the customer needed the shock.

If you think about it, R280 is a fair price for an hour's work plus a bit of material. However, CNC machines do a zillion of these per hour once all the measurement and R&D is already done.

Buy them.
