Hello,

My name is Eduardo Fontes, I am a PhD Student here at the Sports Science Institute, under supervise of Prof Tim Noakes. We are recruiting cyclists to participate in our scientific study.

Our research project will investigate the effects of moderate altitute

(hypoxia) on several physiological variables (i.e., lactate, O2 consumption,

cerebral and muscle oxygenation, muscle recruitment, heart rate) and

perceptual responses.

Basically, we are trying to understand why do you stop during very

exhaustive exercise? How you perceived the fatigue? Why you perceived like that? What causes that perception? The muscle recruitment? Lactate? Heart rate? There are many questions to solve... Many confusions so far...

What we need from you:

7 sessions (visits), 1 at Sports Science Institute (Newlands), and 6 to

Tygerberg Hospital.

You will have to perform, 1 incremental test (VO2max) and 6 high intensity

trials. During these trials we will manipulate the altitude without your

knowledge. We will also measure all the variables I mentioned before.

We will give a full report of all your data.

We will be selecting the cyclist according to their time availability to go to Tygerberg. We have a restricted time there,

and we will have to be sure to not have any drop outs during the experiment.

Petrol money will be available for the Tygerberg trials.

If you are interested, please reply this message to eduardobfontes@gmail.com as soon as possible.

We will select only 10 subjects. It will be really great if you could participate at this world class scientific study.

Thanks for your attention,

Best regards,

Ive mailed the relevant people at SSISA to find out if its true.

Personally, I'd be very surprised if a scam artist knew enough about Dr. Noakes research into fatigue and it's causes to be able to put together an invitation like this!
