I now use an LX BB on my RaceFace cranks ......

smiley2.gif good ,cause the RF BB's does not last smiley5.gif .

SB I had a look at the KCNC manuals and the BB does not look like the normal BB's I have dealt with .

Just go for a good set of XT cranks, after 4 years of riding they have never let me down.?

Also check you chain regularly and replace immediately if needed, its the best and only way to save your cogs and rings.

Well IMHO it is also a 5 minute thought process to solve this one . And it has already been said , get a LX/XT crankset and you will never have to worry about your cranks again .

ok so a few questions before I have to go feed chip.

1. What/how does the LX/XT differ from the SLX cranksets.

2. Does it matter what BB you put in ?

3. How does the shimano stuff compare with the truvativ stuff?

1 . SLX is the new LX i.e 2009 model

2 . In this case you screw the BB on and don't put anything in smiley4.gif . As far as I know any external BB will work

3. Truvativ smiley13.gif

But remember I luv my shimano stuff .

Slowbee, you get 2 different types of cranks. Those that have the drive side crank arm attached to the spindle which goes through the hollow-type bottom brackets as in the case of Shimano and and then you get the cranks that have no spindle, just crank arms.

The most common is the external Hollowtech BB that Shimano use for their Deore, LX, SLX, XT & XTR cranks. The drive side crank arm with Shimano is attached to the spindle. Chris King and others are now manufacturing hollowtech type BB's.

Then you get Square Taper and ISIS BB's.  The crank arms that use these type of BB's have no spindle and attach directly to the BB  with, as mentioned previously, the spindle being part of the BB itself (as opposed to the crank in Shimano's case). Raceface, Crankbrothers, White Industries, Phil Wood (even Shimano) make a range of Sq taper or ISIS BB's

Middelburn cranks only use either the SQ Taper or the ISIS BB although there has been talk for years of them introducing a crank for an external type BB.

Have a look through the various crank and BB options on CRC.

Ok this clears things up a little. Thanks Mr Thug. I was actually looking at CRC trying to figure all this out (especially the middleburns, as I like the blue looking ones).

Now I just need to figure out which one to buy and we will be sorted.
