Cyclists behaving ...... badly!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

This pic was taken on the Kromdraai road..... solid line on the right ...... enough space on the shoulder' date=' but they chose to ride in the roadway AND insult to motorist!!!!!!

Maybe..... just maybe this is why residents do not like the cyclists!!!!!!

IMO the person who decided to paint a solid white line there needs his head read... even sitting at my desk I can see the roads clear. Should rather have a dotted line and then the motorists can move over and safely pass if the coast is clear, no problems no fuss and klip goooing required.

Big H - Who / how is it decided where a solid line is required???????

Big H - I see you have turned to code so I am not sure if your comment is now directed at me!

If it is I have done 26 Cape Argus cycle tour (I am only 36 years old so started quite young) of which 3 have been under 2h30 which requires quite a lot of road time! Yes I have spent many hundreds of thousands of hours training on public roads in RSA. I do ride in a manor which is safest to myself - so If I feel a road is to narrow for overtaking I ride in the middle. Surely fundamentally speaking all road rules should have safety as a primary objective? Safety involves considerate towards others. How many cyclist have killed motorists - and visa versa?

The sooner motorist start obeying all the rules of the road the safer the roads will become to all - including fellow motorist! And yes cyclist are traffic.

And finally the the 1.5m law of overtaking has been brought up which probably means on most roads in RSA when overtaking in a 4 wheels vehicle with a solid barrier line one of two laws will be broken when overtaking and that is either 2 wheels will be over the barrier line or you will be passing to close i.e. less than 1.5m' date=' be it a cyclist or another vehicle.

Cyclist are traffic![/quote']

The 1.5m "law" is currently only at draft stage... **** knows how they'll

police that, though. I reckon it'll go the same way as the no lane splitting

proposal for motorbikes in the 2002 proposed amendments - nowhere...

There is a Road Sign Manual that gives proper guidelines. Normally it is vertical and horizontal line of sight but other features like intersections, property entrances and other features may have an influence here.

You might also feel this way if you've been hit by a car' date=' in the yellow lane, due to the cars in the road traveling to slow according to this driver, so he decided to overtake on the yellow lane, instead os using the 2 lanes available to him.

And just because i'm a rookie on the hub, doesn't mean i'm new at cycling.

Just do yourself a favour and look how motorists treat other motorists. so what chance do we have as cyclists? we do not sit inside a piece of metal with side impact bars etc ... the only protection we have is our skin.

If you want to look for cyclists behaving badly, you don't need to look

on the N14, just go to:

SwissVan to me it looks like a blind rise on a bend. So I think world regulations would suggest a solid white line!

You so lucky living in Switzerland - it so nice to cycle their! I spent 10 days training near Zug about 6 weeks ago, amazingly enough in those 10 days I had 1 car hoot at me and more a friendly hoot, where as in Cape Town I will be lucky to get 10km without been hooted at - yes for no reason. Just a differently level of consideration towards other and possibly education.

Not code but Afrikaans...... in part directed to you...... I said ..... do not phart against thunder..... as an experienced cyclist you will know what I mean...... and you will also ankwoledge you do not do battle as a puny cyclist against an 28 wheeler truck..... that and keeping to the middle of the road because the law says you may is plain stupid!!!!!!!!..... even more stupid to advocate it!!!!!!!!

Frustration is presented in different ways ...

We all seem to complain about Taxi's' date=' idiot cyclists etc.etc, but have you traveled on the freeways of Gauteng lately?I travelled from the Comaro on-ramp Bassonia to the Van Buuren off-ramp? in Bedfordview yesterday afternoon. As we all know that just about every Km of these roads have road works. I set my speed control to 80km as this is the speed limit and proceeded on my way in the extreme left lane. Well, let me tell you, I did not see any taxi's as this is not a Taxi route, but I did see X5's, ML', other Fancy Mercs & BMW's and the odd boy racer coming past me at speeds that I am sure was faster than the national average of 120km's per hour. This all from so called 'educated' people. It just sickens me to think what our society has become. We are quick to moan and point out 'others' lack of respect yet we are the ones just as guilty of breaking the law.To me, it is simple! What is the difference between a Taxi riding on a pavemet to get to his destination quicker or someone driving with a cell phone, either stuck to their ear or texting? NO DIFFEReNCE!! THEY BOTH BREAKING THE LAW!!! We need to start by making a difference! If we all start respecting the rules and laws of this country and obeying them and STOP worrying what the next person is doing, then maybe, just maybe we will have a chance of making this country a better place not just for us, but for our children, grand children & great grand children.I am not wanting to start a debate but merely stating my point of view.May GOD Bless you all as you travel on our roads whether by Bicycle, Car, Bus, Taxi etc. [/quote']

?

NICE ONE!!ClapClapThumbs%20Up
I am with you here, I wish the people complaining about cyclist would spend just a 25% of that time also reporting Taxis, drivers tossing burning cigarettes out of the their cars etc. Well said Captain Slow smiley20.gif

?

Well spoken words I agree .............but do not digress from the issue at hand..... CYCLISTS BEHAVING BADLY...... are you also one??????

?

Again matter of the toothpick in?somebody else's?eye while you have a telephone pole in yours!!!!!!!!!

Depends on how you look at it....Do I cycle next to other riders....well yes. When I am in my car I do not get edgy when seeing other cyclist doing this as I have enough power to pass them safely and quickly.

What I am saying is that all of you should CHILL!!

I had the same problem with the cyclist this weekend and last weekend on that stretch of road. At one staged I had to stop and hoot because I couldn't get past at all. They didn't even acknowledge I was there. If anyone gets knocked over in this area it is there own fault. Next time I will use them as traction. Ouch
