I have to congratulate Avnic on their excellent customer service. Clap

The sound (key tones) on my Edge 705 stopped working last week Wednesday and as Avnic are not too far away, I popped in on Friday morning. As the unit was still under warranty they agreed to replace the unit and deliver it.

The courier has just dropped off my new unit and they have replaced the whole bundle (cadence/speed sensor, hr strap, bike mounts) as well !!

Thanks Avnic !! Clap

Tell me more about the Edge 705, how do the maps work? do you need to buy them seperatly, are their trails / routes loaded etc

Posted

Maps will come with the unit (if purchased locally). They work exactly the same as the units you would find in the car.

No trails or routes are loaded.

I have been back 4 times. They have replaced my unit every time and delivery is very quick.

As far as maps are concerned, depends on the bundle you bought. If it contained maps, they will replace with maps, if only base map, you get base map. If you want topographical maps like 2009, you go buy the CD for R9.95 and then buy unlock code on internet when installing.Schwynn2009-09-28 14:23:17

Nice one Thug. Now your 705 will be able to shout at you for pushing to hard at the Tuesday evening crits!

Hmmm... maybe now he'll be able to find our morning rides on a more

regular basis? Wink

what does the base map consist of?

Is it worth buying the unit for the map side or rather buy the Edge 305?

The base map is the Garmin Africa Series (Southern Africa) that gives you full mapping.

- You are able to use it to plot routes and guide you to various destinations BUT there is no "voice prompt".

- You can also use it to trace routes that you've previously ridden.

It looks as if I have finally solved my long running frustration as far as heart rate monitors are concerned.

Sometimes one must close your mouth and open your ears! smiley9.gif After trying water, spit, Vaseline, body lotion and a host of other stuff on the electrodes without any success, I bought some ULTRASON scanning gel from Discem and viola! My problems are over. smiley1.gif Applied some on the electrodes and I am back in business.

Just comes to show, read the manual and listen to what the experts say.

This forum is littered with good news posts from avnic (lots from polar too, actually), nice to hear good service getting flaming chillies. However it does worry me that people continually need the service (can't it just sommer work, rather?).

Anyone had experience with an overseas bought garmin needing repair from avnic? i only ask because I saw the sexiest bike toy ever the other day at a boatshow in the uk. i want i want i want, but if i come back home will they still honour the warranty?

oh, before you ask - the Dakota10 and 20
