LBS morality question

Gromit

Recommended Posts

I bought a bike from an LBS about 6 months ago. Since then an integral part of the bike failed. I returned the part to the LBS who agreed to have it replaced under guarantee. I patiently waited for the replacement, after 2 weeks I asked for a loan unit so as to be able to ride my bike...

...Its now been 6 weeks and still nothing. Now my morality question: should I be concerned that the LBS refused me a loan unit? I understand that it was not due to neglegence on their part that the unit failed, but then again I bought the bike from them not from their supplier.

Am I wrong in being a little peed?

Define "integral part"?  Manufacturer?

Then maybe you can identify if it is the LBS or the supplier keeping you on a string........

no reason why it should take that long, unless your 'integral part' had to be ordered from far away (should still only take a week via airmail if the LBS sources it themselves)

Now if they are waiting for the part from a supplier and his next order will only be placed sometime in the near future, you might be in for a very long wait...

I know the hassle with the part and have spoken to the supplier directly about the issue and I understand the predicament they are in.

My question is: should not the LBS have stepped in and offered some sort of "helping hand" seeing that I bought the bike from them?

if they don't have demo bikes, and not many do, they certainly wont let you muck about on a new one while you wait...

Have to agree with Rude.

If the LBS is unable to help you with a loan unit, you are stuck.  It boils down to finances.

If a part of a manufacturer breaks it is not their fault.  They are merely the agents.  If they as middlemen are not getting the job done, roer hulle.

Otherwise.......waiting game....

I once waited 4 months for a new frame the be replaced under warranty.....if it was not for my club to help me out with a loan bike I would have chewed my own arms off just for fun!!!

Gromit , what part is it that failed ?

you dont have to name the brand ( which i suggest you dont for now)

just the part you require

If your LBS is reputable ( and the part is going to be replaced ) and willing, ask them to remove the part you require from a bike on the floor ( if they have one in stock ) and then they can wait for the spare to arive in there own time.

but you need to put pressure on them, in a nice way.

Dude , surely thay can lend you a saddle or give you a upgrade and you pay in the diff or just take one off a bike for you.To hold up a bike and your riding for a saddle.......mmmmmmmmmmm, but as you have said you have spoken to them , why not sugest this .

most LBS will do this kind of thing

they surely dont need to keep your whole bike just to replace a saddle, any shop should have a spare saddle lying around!

I have my bike at home, I just took the saddle in for replacement.

I was on the verge of just buying a new saddle, but after spending the cash on the bike my wifes "yes, go buy it" statements have somewhat dried up

Go back to the agents and ask them to credit the shop for the value of the saddle , then you go to the shop and let them supply you one at that value or pay the diff and buy another brand, but i suggest you dont get the same type of saddle if they are having problems.

Or just to get yourself back on the bike go buy a second hand one on the hub, they not expensive while you wait.

Dude , make a plan its only a saddle .
