The problem is not with your lbs. Most lbs will put a mark up of 30%(there are exceptions)which i think is fair. The problem lies with the suppliers especially the two big ones(JJ and Coolheat)

As many have said,i can buy cheaper over the internet than my lbs can buy from the agents and if your lbs tries to get products cheaper via another route they will get a nasty visit from those guys or a lawyers letter.Angry

Every time my lbs orders from those guys they ask for a jar of vasaline so that it is not so painfull when they get f#&ckd with the price.

And don't give me the backup story, they give you no backup.

I've never had use for bicks so I've never compared prices. Is it that little silver thing that's at the end of the cables?

Mud Dee, I was advised in a reply to an earlier post about certain build kits available to dealers in CT. These included everything but the frame. I thought I would call the distributor first just to enquire and get an update on what is currently available. Before I knew it I was quoted all the kit prices. Of course the one I was interested in involved the top of the range groupset, Ksyrium SL's etc. etc. This sounded great and seemed like a good special until I asked if this was the price available to the public. It was then that I was informed that I would probably pay close to the whole kit price (about R3k less) just for the wheels at the LBS. The kit would now be about double the price quoted. I did not expect the distributor to  sell direct to me, but this is ridiculous. So essentially a R15k kit will now cost me R30k from my LBS. I will check the individual prices tonight at Total Cycling & CRC and see what that comes to. Wat grinds me is that this is a "SPECIAL" - my question is a special WHAT!!!Angry

if you are prepared to wait for one of your expat friends to come back from o/seas. buy on line from there . for eg groupset from CWC on line R10 000 i got it for R7 999 from totalcycling. got it delivered to a friend of mine in the UK and he brought it in for me.

That does not always work, depending on the store. I use to bring in slot cars for a club and the shops did not charge VAT because they were not deliverd to a EU address. But if it does get delivered locally, they charge VAT.
