WRIGHTLIGHT Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Hi there, this is not product bashing, so here goes, Currently wanting to upgrade my MTB and have two options,SRAM X9 group set (RD, FD and shifters) or Shimano XT (RD, FD and shifters). All else on the bike is the same.
Spinnekop Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I'd go for SRAM..... O yes....I did go for SRAM....and have no regrets!!!!
Brighter-Lights Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I'll tell you why I won't get X9 again, although I'm a big SRAM fan... The X9 front der, is good. I like it. The rear der is a lot weaker than the shimano XT... It uses a plastic P knuckle, where shimano uses an aluminium one with better bushings. The XT rear der will stay solid a lot longer. I've been through two X9 rear der's the last 2 years. They develop excessive play at the P knuckle, no matter how often you clean and lube the bushings. Besides the P knuckle. The guide pulley is a design that requires you to buy SRAM pulleys only (stupid offcenter steel bush) wears very quickly when riding in the wet. Where Shimano uses standard pulleys, with the holes center. (Can be replaced with many aftermarket options) I've upgraded to a X0 now, because it can be disassembled (bushings can be replaced) and use standard type pulleys. My 1c...
Eldron Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 SLX cos it soundslike sex Today's Shimano hint brought to you by Eldron. If you want to bring the sexy back with your SLX - simply use a black permanent marker to turn the "L" into an "E". It works best and is most visible on the cranks.
Thumper Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 XTR not an option? Got the complete drive train and love it.
bduplessis Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 XTR not an option? Got the complete drive train and love it. I had XTR but could not afford the wear on it,got XT and it is sweet.
EZRider Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I love my XT and voted for it. Too be fair, I haven't used anything else so take that into account.
Reghard111 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I love my XTR but the price is not justified...XT all the way!
greatwhite Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 XTR not an option?Got the complete drive train and love it. I had XTR but could not afford the wear on it' date='got XT and it is sweet.[/quote'] XTR is great just stay away from cranks and cluster - cost a fortune to run those 2 items
nickc Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Upgraded my old XT to X9 and never looked back.
Bolt Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 XO is the bomb - running for 3 years and not one issue - not even one gear chsnge slipping - not as smooth as XTR but definately more durable
