The marshalling was poor and there was manual timing. The route was boring' date=' but hey the end chute with the crowd was nice, maybe organisers should go and talk to Fritz Pienaar on how to put on a MTB race.  [/quote']

You make me Laugh Wheelsuck, I did two of the Fritz Pienaar races 1. cullinan 2.Irene and both were so sh*t!!!Angry
Come on you seriuosly think that yesterday's race was of a better standard in terms of organisation, marshalling and route? But if that's your opinion then we can agree to disagree.

Route was very good if you take what space they had to work with. Agree with you on the organisation.

Marshalling at the Irene Fritz race was so bad that they sent the whole C batch the wrong way and did not stop them until 30 odd km's when they went into the top guys going the right way.

Both were both shocking when it came to seeding!

MTB seeding for all Joburg races are a joke...Angry

Easy - big wheels are better for ALL courses ;-)

?

No seriously - they are.

I was desperate for mine in that prison, note to self, don't have a training week in the same week as 94.7, the 8k run the night before killed me smiley18.gif smiley18.gif

I can see an Epic 29'er in my future.

The seeding for this race was a bit cock-eyed. I was stuck behind some okes who clearly had no hope of finishing in the top 50 and yet they were on the second row of the start pen. By the time I'd passed them' date=' Burry and co were already at the top of the first hill.

The oke who finished 9th overall was seeded A5. He ignored that and started A1.

As Eldron says, the course didn't allow for much recovery. My average HR was 171 and my max was 191, which is high for me.

I guess the course was about as good as you can do in that area. Who knows where they're going to have it when that property development is sold. One advantage of the credit crunch is it delays the development on MTB routes. The bumpy bits, especially that bit right near the end, were extremely unpleasant.

I was hoping to get the elusive sub four hours for the two 94.7s but clearly that's not going to happen with a 2:07 today. Jock Green could be in with a shot. Perhaps AM, depending on which group he rides tomorrow. I think he's done it before, as has JP Pearton.

I did not find it that though my max HR was only 158 and ave 136. Wow not high indeed.

Yea was fun' date=' but was a bit upset with the end. Why no beer tent or nice place to sit. Eventually they opened a little beer shop with warm beer. Why couldnt they let the MTB event have access to the end area and clean it for tomorrow.

Please dont treat us as the black sheep of the family, and make sure there is cold beer.

my thoughts exactly!! just because there werent as many mtbers as roadies, doesnt mean we dont crave a nice cold one after a race! The lone hamburger stand ran out of patties... took my wife along, nowhere to sit, hardly any shade....

also agree that all the stopping was annoying, but once we split from the 25km guys, it really did open up nicely and there was some awesome riding to be had!

really expected more out of an event as high profile as this.

You and your Spesh - Niner make the best 29ers damnit LOL

You looked seriously strong the first half - climbing like a mountain goat on Red Bull!

Even that evil bumpy stuff right at the end was not match for the big wheels. The legs on the other hand - no comment LOL

From the A2 bunch didnt see much congestion, enjoyed the race a lot.

First 25km was awesome, yes it will never compare with an Induna or Mankele, but from the area they had route was great.  Nice fast flowing single track.

I had a bit of a head-over-handlebars experience at the halfway mark and from then the up-n-down profile of the route was flipn tough!

But all in all a good day.

At the race they said there will be highlights during the weekend but I couldn?t find any. I saw the highlights of the children challenge but nothing about the M.T.B. challenge

With them recording finishers manually it is going to take longer.

Any idea when they will show the hilites on TV?

Tonight on SS6 at 7pm

I think we should all stop complaining about the race. An awesome job was done to catter for us. Yes it is a pitty about the hold up at the road crossing and I'm sure it will be addressed next year.

What needs to be complained about are the sucker who jump lines just to enter the path to walk up sections - disallowing capable riders to ride sections. Or the guys that walk up sections to mount their bike on the crest.

An awesome ride and far more challenging than one would expect in Gauteng, especially in that area or the city.

Anyone know when and where results will be posted?

I e-mailed Racetec about 1/2 hour ago, but no response yet. Any idea why they did not use transponders?Confused
