Observation - Sunblock enjoys attention, no matter if it's positive or negative. Sunblock is very good at getting attention - normally negative. But he keeps on coming for more.

I haven't been doing the triathlon thing for about 2 years, reason being, I wanted to try the cycling thing full on.  Wanted to get provincial colors in cycling.  I got a silver at a provincial race last year, but otherwise didn't ride well for various reasons.

I've taken the liberty to read up on the posts guys are writing, and I think you could do with better content, and a more constructive approach.

BTw, the reason I heard about The HUB was someone copied and pasted a story I wrote on Free State Cycling, and then lots of people (like Witrot) starting making comments on my behalf.

Since we're on the subject of standards, there's an interesting piece in the Sunday Times about the legal position of bloggers and people who post on the net.  For those with avatars and who think they're anonymous, you're not.  Every PC can be tracked.  Every PC has a unique identifier, and it's not so hard to find.

Also, be very careful with outright insults.  You can be sued.

I have this rule of thumb: it's not libel if it's true - in other words, you can't be sued (theoretically) for stating a fact.

But having gone through some of the content here, I do wonder what the moderators are doing.

When you start calling someone a name you have to be very careful.  If that person feels like it they can take you to court, especially since you are doing so in a public place, and especially if you are using that person's name and surname.  People do have a right to privacy, and they have a right to their privacy being respected.  And there are other rights we have besides.

So better be sure your quotes are accurate, and if you say something that isn't nice, make sure you're willing it back it up in person in the real world.

Sunblock' date=' now see what you have done, psycho is so angry that he is almost incoherent. It is going to take him at least a week to stop biting the postman on his training rides.

Sun block, what has this got to do with the topic?

btw thanks for the positive criticism on the writing abilities of us amatures on the hub. We love it when journalists use there standards to judge our rantings and ravings. Makes us feel appreciated. You mean that we are almost good enough to be published in a newspaper/ magazine dedicated to people, whose second or third language is English. I mean WOW, thanks for your time and support.

Now can I make a comment about your work? (after all some newspapers and magazines actually pay you for it) or should I just pass it onto your editor?

Back to the topic.

In the Northern hemisphere both road and mtb are summer season activities. And whether we like it or not, Australia is the best Southern hemisphere cycling country, and they have both their road and mtb national championships in January. It makes me wonder.

This is a quote from a buddy of mine who trained for SA's and is sick for a 2nd time and can't take part:

"really struggle to understand why they would have SA road champs in the middle of winter? They have SA MTB champs on the 16th of June and MTB is recognized as cycling's winter sport' date=' so to have both SA's two weeks apart just doesn't make sense..."

Sunblock, please excuse my ignorance, but I miss the bit where it says this is from a Vet? Please help?

Thanks dominic, this is what I call an intelligent counter-argument. I think one needs to compare the South African and Australian road calenders for an answer on this one. From my understanding the whole rationale behind their approach is probably the intent to accomodate their Protour riders by having the road champs close to the Tour Down Under.

If I remember correctly, this is exactly what happened the year before last when the SA champs was in Feb/March to co-incide with the Giro/Argus. In contrast with the Ozzies CSA decided to have SA's in June to fall in line with the European countries, irrespective of season.

My point is that, upon careful consideration, both arguments have some validity, but I doubt whether CSA or the UCI will use this thread as substantiation to alter their decision.

I wouldn't mind if the S.A. were a week before Argus like they were in the past.  Last year and this year my training has been seriously impacted by illness.  At least this year I have a team mates that can also be supported so there is more than one reason to ride.

(Having 2 children makes it close to impossible to keep the dreaded lurgy at bay)

I think all of us that have kids would prefer SA's earlier in the year. I was down for the whole of April and half of May with flu (creche flu). But this is the price for breading. (Tissink also has kids but the life of a pro is different from that of the working class).

You however point to something that has been missed by those focused on personal acheivements, that being, cycling is a team sport. If you go to SA's you should be part of a team, especially if you are wanting to win.

Good luck to you and your team Bruce.

Mamparra, that horse avatar of yours is a classic.

Okay, let's have a demoncratic vote: which month, all things considered, is best for SA's?
